Just thought I'd say hello, newly diagnosed as type 2 and on week 3 of the Newcastle diet. Have made a thread here which I'll keep updated with my journey. Lots of useful information on this site and I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go.

Curious whats everyone going to eat for Christmas? My plan is to skip breakfast then just eat meat and veg for lunch (maybe 1 or 2 potatoes and no booze) then my usual meal replacement shake for dinner.

Xmas day is my first day of food reintroduction, as I'm just about to finish the T2D pathway to Remission diet, (tomorrow) which is basically the Newcastle diet. So, I will be treating myself to some turkey, and lots of veg, but no spuds or booze, (don't drink much anyway TBH).
Good luck with the diet, its a good way to lose weight if you stick at it. I've lost 30+ lbs in 12 weeks.
Also check out the learning zone on this website, lots of good info.

Well done on finishing it, how did you find it overall? I'm assume there's peaks and troughs and you just need to persevere with it.

The program I'm on is supported for one year, by my surgary and the health company who run it (Xyla Health in my case, but it varies around the Country). So although I've just about finished the first 12 weeks, I will spend the next couple of months slowly decreasing the shakes and increasing "normal" meals and cals. Plus will also continue to be monitored for the full 12 months. I'm on 800 cals a day and its not recommended that you go that low, long term, without medical monitoring. I get a consultation phone call every couple of weeks, plus an app to update, (my weight, BG, BP, etc). They provide ongoing support for the full 12 months, and they provide the total meal replacements for free and also provide a set of scales, a BP monitor and BG testing kit. I stopped taking metformin on day 1 of the program, and my BG levels have been pretty stable in the normal range since I started. Just had a 3 monthly blood test today, so hoping my HbA1c level will have dropped too, will know in a few days when I get the results.
Are you just doing it yourself, or is this via your GP?

That sounds pretty comprehensive, my DR didn't mention any of that but then again I didn't ask either and they're still completing their diagnosis. I'm doing it all myself, didn't want to hang around and wait for months. Just read Roy Taylors book, ordered my shakes and got cracking. I'd like to come off the Metformin as well but I'll speak to my DR about that in a few weeks once I finish this diet and see how I'm going.

You must be relieved to finish the 12 weeks, will be nice getting back to some real food. Mind you I had 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of smoked salmon this morning which is around 190 cals and the book does say you can cook meals instead. Nice to have something a little different.

Good luck with it, just don't go too low on cals for too long. It can affect energy levels, plus very fast weight loss and lowering of BG levels can affect the eyes/your vision, plus you could end up not getting all the nutrients and vitamins you need, so just be careful with it if you are doing it on y our own. All the best..... 😎

How did you find it yesterday @CurlyWurly ? Did your plans work out OK?

Don’t worry if things went out of kilter for the one day… it shouldn’t make much difference over the course of the whole programme 🙂

Thanks, I'm only doing it for 8 weeks then the 4 week phase back in of meals but I might shorten that to 2 weeks - will see how things are going nearer the time. I had my retinopathy test and that came back all fine. The shakes seem to have all the vitamins in them but they should really add some fibre into them, don't see why they haven't. I certainly won't miss the shakes - hopefully a good lesson not to misbehave in the future.

It was fine thanks, skipped the morning shake and for lunch just had meat and veg with a few small potatoes. No gravy or pigs in blankets. Then had my regular evening shake. Was probably pretty close to the 800 calories, maybe even under. I did have 3 quality street on boxing day but managed to abstain on everything else.

It was tough yesterday as had people round and there was the usual crips, dips, pizzas, garlic bread etc all out but had to skip it and console myself with strips of pepper and cucumber.

It will almost be a relief to get back to work next week and a routine with no more distractions.
