A warm welcome Steph! Glad to hear you've got a meter and are now starting to get your head round it. You'll pick up a lot of really useful information and support on here. We all have a really steep learning curve to start with and the medics are not always the most informed or up to date.

Please don't be nervous about posting...we don't eat people (they're far too high in carbs! :D)

For me it's been as much about co trolling portions of carbs as it has eliminating them altogether. So I'm tending to have 1 slice of whole grain bread rather than 3/4 slices of white, or half a small jacket potato rather than an enormous one.

Good luck with everything!

Hi

I joined the forum a few weeks ago but have yet to post on here (being a bit nervous to do so!) I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes 6 years ago and was told I was left with type 2 after my son was born. Over the past 5 years I have had no real support from my GP, other than being told to lose weight (if only it was that simple!). Abut 18 months ago I was put onto Metformin (slow release) and have tried to eat healthily and lose weight. I know carbs are a particular problem for me and so I'm thinking of trying a LCHF diet. I haven't got a clue really of what I need to do to lose weight and manage my sugars at the same time. So, I've joined the forum in the hope that there are some kind people out there who will be able to offer me some support and guidance.

I read the forum regularly and hope to have the confidence to post and ask for help.

Steph

Hi Steph,

LCHF is not for everyone, but if you don't try you will never know. For me it definitely does work, no more hunger, shakes, FBG in the 'normal' range; it's my new way of life. For an explanation of what it is & how it works there are a number of YouTube videos which explain in relatively simple terms:

A WEB site with some great information is http://www.ruled.me/
