Hi everyone. I had an appointment at the Doctors over 2 weeks ago but I already had an idea what they were going to tell me. I'd been very thirsty and getting up 2 or 3 times a night for a pee. I'd also lost some weight. Anyway I've just started taking Metformin on Monday. I've only had 1 a day so far but have been prescribed 2 a day.
My first shopping trip to the supermarket was mind blowing after I'd been diagnosed. It took me ages and I was close to tears by the time I left. So much to take in. So many labels to read. So much sugar!
One of the side effects I've noticed that they don't tell you about in any books..... So much washing up. So many more plates. So much more cooking.
I'll make somebody a great wife!

Welcome to the forum, sorry to hear about the DX, but it's a life changer (in a good way if you let it)

These days, I don't read labels much; not too many labels in the produce & meat departments where I usually concentrate my time... As for the things in the other isles, I pretty much know the carb content of most of the stuff I buy... But if I need something I don't know the carb content of it can be a problem actually trying to read the label with my eyesight

Hi,
Quite agree about the quantity of dishes used - something I hadn't appreciated until recently! As for labels, it is almost second nature now and I see so many people checking them as well. My mental arithmetic isn't so good - so when I see per 100 gram and then check the actual grams in the product there is always a few minutes and eventually a guess as to what the carb content could be! I suspect I cannot be alone with this method.

Ah Lord rust, I remember doing exactly that and then sulking on my sofa as it was all going to be way too complicated and I was sure to starve to death 🙄 you soon get used to what works for you or doesn’t (testing is key for this), shopping now is much easier. I use my slow cooker a lot so that cuts down on the washing up o_O
