Hello everyone, I am new to this forums and to diabetes. I was sent the results of a blood test confirming diabetes but have to wait a month to see the diabetes nurse. I haven't felt ill or had an incident, it was picked up at an eye exam and I have been referred to an eye doctor at the hospital although there are no appointments available there, *eye roll*, have to keep trying to get seen.
It's all a bit frustrating as I have a diagnosis but no where to go with it at the moment.
I reckon I'll have a scout about the forums and get to know you all.
Best wishes!

Hi LittleG and welcome, I an also new to this forum but 4 months into my diagnosis. I am sure that someone will be along soon who can give you some pointers, try and stay calm... I know how hard that is at diagnosis, but things can be slowed down really quickly, and you'll hopefully be feeling like you are beginning to get in control of your condition. Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions.. Everyone's really friendly here, I reckon we have all been very anxious when diagnosed. ☺

Thank you so much. I have been up and down all week. Overwhelming feelings of guilt that I have let my family and friends down by not looking after myself. Then I feel ok and in control.... then I want to cry. I guess all this is perfectly natural.

Welcome to the forum.🙂 Don't blame yourself. Like most of us here you were just unlucky. I'm assuming you are Type 2? If so, it is often wrongly plastered all over the media as being the result of eaten too many sweets, cakes, junk food & being obese. If thats the case then everyone who has a bad diet or is overweight would have type 2 at some point in their lives. Quite often it can be genetic. There's lots of lovely people on here that can help & give you loads of advice.🙂

Oh sweetheart! It's not your fault you have a spluttering pancreas! There are many reasons why it packs up. One of the simplest reasons could be it's just worn out!

Give yourself a break - have a good cry and mourn your pancreas then settle down and take control.

Ask any questions you need to. :D

Hey littleG
Love the name, it was mine many years ago, my brothers friends all referred to me as babyG then littleG, some still do despite the fact I'm a 6ft grown woman 🙂

It must be very difficult waiting for that appointment, but you'll feel a bit better once you've got more information, there's nothing worse than waiting. it's perfectly normal to feel emotional, we've all been there. I don't think anyone will forget the feeling in a hurry. i cried on a bus over a gingerbread latte, blubbering wreck in public, the whole nine yards. It's a scary old condition is diabetes, but it's totally and utterly doable I promise 🙂. Welcome aboard, hope you find it useful 🙂

Hi littleg. Like Lynn says, give yourself a break. I had other bits like abnormal tumour markers ( all ok though) to worry about when I got diagnosed and thought it might be my last xmas. and got the oh heck's ( or a word starting with h) this is for life after about 4 months. After pinging and howling at my nurse appointment with a plaintive" I feel like I am living n breathing diabetes" duh- of course I am living it, I settled down n got on with it. It's all a journey for you, and it's easy to blame yourself for that bar of chocolate, glass of booze, chip butty, weight, but the real fact is it can be scary at the start and hard to take in all the information and it's best if you can control what you can control.take a pen and paper to your health appointments and write stuff down, and write your questions down. Lots advice and information around the forum, and folk are great if you need a moan. Don't feel daft to ask questions. Love yourself and let your family and friends be your rock carol
