Relationship to Diabetes
Parent of person with diabetes
Just wanted to say hi on World Diabetes Day. I am Mum to a type 1 teen who is on an insulin pump and sensors now and again when I can persuade her. I am also on the children with diabetes mailing list so may know some of you parents from there. Hoping to gain lots of knowledge from here about growing up with type 1 and the challenges she will face along the way. We are also both coeliac.

Hi Hemelgirl, welcome to the forum 🙂 Yes, I'm sure you'll find some familiar names here! I think it can also help you, as a parent, hearing the experiences of those who have grown to adulthood with diabetes - possibly even for decades! - and who can relate to the challenges you and your daughter face.

I look forward to hearing more from you, and I hope you find the forum useful!

Thanks for the welcome - yes she is going to be an adult with type 1 a lot longer than a child so many new challenges to face. I helped at the Diabetes Uk big Event last year and learnt a lot from attending an event for all diabetics not just children with diabetes which I can hopefully pass onto her. She is lucky enough to be under a great hospital with access to the latest technology - sadly this is not the case all over the UK.
