Hi @EmmaLouise86. Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you're battling with your BG levels. What medication have you been out on?

Thankyou for such a quick reply! I am on Bydureon once a week and Jardiance ( water tablets ) but it seems to me that the Bydureon isn't doing anything to help with my sugars!. I am under a diabetic dietician. We are working together to help with my Blood glucose. I was drinking 4litres of energy drinks a day plus coffee, but i'm now 3 months free of energy drinks and sugar in my coffee, i have sweetners instead and drinking pepsi max.

Yup, the glucose drinks definitely would not have been helping!

What's a typical day for you dietwise? And - further thought - have you been given any advice re to testing your BG levels at home with a meter?

Well i am mainly vegetarian, but i do tend to snack, like crisps. Not much for chocolate, but savory snacks i love. i try not to snack but since i only eat once a day ( I know lol ). I do have a home testing kit. When i was on the energy drinks my BG were starting at 18 and going up to 27/29 but now i am waking up with them being around 7/8 and going up to around 12/15 after i've had my evening meal.

Neither Bydureon nor Jardiance are diuretics (ie 'water tablets').

Jardiance prevents the kidneys reabsorbing sugar, so it is lost in the urine and that can help to control type two diabetes by lowering the blood glucose levels.
There is a possibility of developing thrush or infections as the bugs thrive in the sugary environment.

Well done on the terrific progress you have been making so far @EmmaLouise86

You might find it really helpful to keep a food diary for a week or two. Be brutally honest! Note down everything you eat and drink. And note down a reasonable estimate the amount of total carbohydrates (not just ‘of which sugars’) in you meals and snacks.

This will give you an idea of which foods are the main sources of carbs in your menu, and may well highlight some easy targets for portion reduction or swaps.

You can also use your BG meter to check different meals and snacks by checking BG immediately before and again 2hrs after your first bite. Ideally you’d want to see a rise of 2-3mmol/L or less. If you see a much bigger rise than that, it’s a good idea to reduce the carb load to try to reduce the rise. 🙂
