Hello I'm Amey.
I've known I was diabetic for a while now and thought I was coping okay. But my readings were getting quite high and I've recently started Insulin, so now I've joined the forum because this is new territory for me and I wanted to be able to talk to others who are on Insulin and advice on the way they coped.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum Amey 🙂

Hi Amey, welcome to the forum 🙂 What insulin are you on, and what sort of readings are you getting now? Have you been on the insulin long?

Welcome.

I've been on Insulin since the 8th October this year. So not long. I'm finding it okay, and I'm just starting to get the hang of titration. It's quite daunting at first.

It certainly can be daunting, as you are effectively doing a job that most people take for granted - the job your pancreas can no longer perform properly for you and needs that helping hand. Are you in regular touch with your nurse so that you are adjusting the insulin doses regularly? It's normal to start you off cautiously so you are at lower risk of hypos. What are your levels like now compared to before the insulin?

Welcome to the forum Amey.

The mentioning of titration sent me back to my A-level chemistry lessons, many, many years ago!

Andy 🙂

My BG levels have dropped since starting the Insulin, but they're still very up and down at the moment. My nurse is very supportive and she phones now and again inbetween appointments just to see how I'm doing. The bit that I am finding very difficult is balancing my carb intake around my readings. I cycle and go to the gym and finding that balance of what to have to keep my readings steady, but not too high can be hit and miss sometimes.
