Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi! I’ve been lurking since December, just trying to get my head around things really. I was diagnosed as type 2 in December, I’d been having issues with my eyes for a long while which started the whole diagnosis. I was put onto insulin straight away as I was told my numbers was high plus they had found I had liver function issues (still trying to figure that out) the hospital said insulin would be best option to get my levels down and not interfere with my liver issues. Anyway I’m now 4 months on, feel like I’ve pretty much been left to get on with it, only had 1 phone call from a diabetes nurse, 2 calls from a dietician and my own GP nurse once. Some positives are my numbers from the hba1c have gone from 126 to 60 (I’m told this is good going) I’m still getting my head around it all but thought it might help me to say hello to you all.

Morning @CescaMarie welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, liver issues and relative lack of support from your GP etc. I'm afraid that the lack of support after diagnosis is pretty common. It sounds like you're doing well with your HbA1c to get it down from 126 in a few months.
How are you coping with it all? Have you got any questions or anything you'd like to find out about?
Sarah

Hello Sarah, thank you for the reply 🙂 the dietician seems to think I’ve been forgotten about as I originally went into hospital as an emergency appointment, she’s going to chase that up for me. I think I’m doing ok, I have off days where I feel fed up and the why me (I’m sure a lot of people feel like that occasionally) I’m getting better though, I am used to the routine of testing and I’ve learnt what I can eat. My treat is a takeaway once a month now and it really does feel like a treat! Im very active as I look after my Grandson during the week, he’s 8 months old and never stops! So I’m hoping this combined with my change in diet will get some more weight off however I’m just happy my numbers are coming down for now. I’ve read your little info bit and congratulations, you are doing really well! Makes you feel good doesn’t it to actually see a difference!

Sounds like you're doing well, apart from the odd "off" day, and we all have them, sadly. It's good to hear that you're doing ok, diet and exercise wise, and you've got a good attitude about your numbers coming down, slow and steady is the way to go.

Goodness, looking after your 8 month old grandson sounds like hard work! They're lovely at that age, but like you say, never stop!
Let us know how you're getting on, and ask away if you have any questions, I don't know anything about insulin etc, but there's a wealth of experience on the forums.
Thanks for your kind words, I'm trying to say on the diet and do more exercise, but I'm doing much less well on the exercise bit of it. Still a long way to go, but I keep trying. Best wishes, Sarah

And to you, thank you for the welcome also

Lovely that you have ‘delurked’ @CescaMarie

And huge congratulations on your terrific HbA1c reduction.

Sorry to hear you feel you've been left to your own devices since diagnosis. I think it’s a particularly tricky time to get diagnosed, with the system under such strain.

Feel free to ask away with any and all questions, and perhaps consider registering for the Learning Zone (orange tab in the main menu) which has loads of helpful information to get you started.

Welcome. Four follow up appointments in four months sounds like quite a lot to me! It seems like it’s been enough since your a1c has dropped so much too, so just keep on what you’re doing.

Welcome to my world. I was diagnosed about 3 weeks ago. Similar to yourself. No call from the Care team. Felt as I ve been left alone too. Today GP came to my rescue. Received a call from the DN. Not her case to handle but she still gave me the right information and told me that I am doing alright. I know this little bit of encouragement is going to be productive. Hang in there, it will get easier, they all tell me and I hope it does for you too. Take care! X
