Hello there
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 2 and a half weeks ago. My fasting glucose was 7.2 apparently. My problem was eating huge portions and eating lots of fruit and dried fruit...apart from all the rubbish I ate when I was younger and rubbish family genes.
Anyway, I think I'm over the shock and reduced my portions and fruit intake and lost 3kg in 2 weeks.
Got 1 question...of possible many...when you squat, like getting something from a low cupboard, and stand up and you feel dizzy and funny...is that because my blood sugar levels are low?
For breakfast I had a slice of low gi seeded/wholegrain bread with some all natural peanut butter and a tiny bit of st dalfour strawberry spread.

Hi Ramon Welcome. Personally I think it may be to do with your blood pressure. I have postural hypotension, it means my BP( blood pressure) can drop when I stand up , causing similar symptoms to yours. So it would be well worth mentioning it to your Gp or nurse, it's easy to test for this.

I have low blood pressure hence my dizzy spells so I avoid sharply rising as it causes it.

Are you experimenting with food?
Did you get a monitor at all?
Bread, rice, grains, are a no no for me as they spike my sugars.
I self test daily to keep an eye on my levels. I'm still experimenting with foods and now have an avoid list.

Well done on the weight loss too.

I'm an amateur cook so yes I'm experimenting with food and lot. Cut my bread and rice quite substantially too. Lowered my intake of cheese drastically. My blood pressure was a bit high actually at 140/94 (checked 2 days ago) No meter yet as it's diet controlled and I wasn't given any meds. Was given Amlodipine 5mg a day for 3 weeks to lower my BP.

Hi Ramon, welcome to the forum 🙂 Even though you are diet-controlled, it is still a very good idea to get a meter so that you can monitor the effects of different food on your blood sugar levels. Whilst there are a lot of obvious choices, there are also things that vary considerably from person to person, and only measuring tolerances with a meter will inform you about this. Have a read of Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S to understand how this works. If your nurse/GP won't give you a meter and prescription for test strips it's worth shelling out a few pounds whilst you establish what works well for you personally and what doesn't - once you've got a good idea then you won't need to test so much, except perhaps when trying something new 🙂 The cheapest option we have come across is the SD Codefree Meter which has test strips at around £8 for 50.

I'd also recommend reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter for a good understanding of how to manage things well 🙂

Mine is the very same as yours diet and exercise only and I took matters into my own hands over monitoring and bought one cheaply from Amazon as I was working blind with no real help from the nurse or doctor. I was really disgusted by the attitude of my surgery to be honest and not looking forward to the review either.
I did have high cholesterol now back down but I after putting my head in the sand for a month or so went on a LCHF diet and it seems to be working for me.

Thank you so much again. I was told I don't need one by my nurse. Also my worry is that as I have health anxiety amongst other anxieties and am also a hypochondriac, that I'll keep obsessing about everything! To be fair I have no Idea what the numbers/levels mean. Haha.

Well, it's fair enough if you don't think it will be helpful for you, the problem is that often healthcare professionals wheel out the line that you don't need to test because they think it will save money, and not really considering the needs of the patient in front of them, but for a lot of people the anxiety of not knowing is worse - they should at the very least explain the reasons and give you the choice 🙂

Hello and welcome Ramon. I'm T2 with high blood pressure and do have dizzy spells, but usually when I'm lying down. I try not to bend down as I'm fat. :D
 
Hi. I often suffer with dizzy spells if I get up too quickly, but I've never suffered from low blood pressure. Never even thought of mentioning it to my GP.
