My fiance is currently trying the vegan diet recommended by Dr Neal Barnard. Its been nearly 2 weeks now. His bloods are coming down and he lost 3lbs in the 1st week. Hurrah! lol. But last night he had chronic heartburn which kept him up for hours. I had made a pasta dish with soya mince and beans in base made of tinned chopped tomatoes. It tasted quite nice but were both wondering if the tomatoes were the cause of his pain. Any ideas ?

Good to hear that things are improving - well done both of you! 🙂 I can't think that tomatoes would be the cause of heartburn, but I don't know - it's not something I have suffered from and I eat them all the time. Hope he is feeling much better now 🙂 Keep up the good work!

Lot of acid in tomatoes. Had a friend with Rheumatoid Arthritis, she couldn't touch em with a bargepole.

Esp if they have onions with them and a lot of recipes do - chilli and bolog for instance.

Cure? A teaspoon of sugar ....... in the recipe, not you!

Worth trying at least. One tsp won't kill any of us.

If the heart burn is persistent try peppermint tea. Hubby had tablets some time ago and couldn't have antacids and was advised to try peppermint tea which helped.
