Hearing blood rush - anyone else had this?

Hi all,

Just recently I've been getting a sudden very loud sound of blood rushing in my left ear. Goes away after five or ten minutes, not in any particular position such as lying down or sitting.

Should I be concerned?

I know it sounds strange but I hear my pulse, very loud, in my left ear when my blood count is low. I get my full blood count tested when I hear it and I am always right. I take liquid iron which does a good job but when fbc is low I get iron infusions at my local hospital. I hope this is some help to you.

Me too. I'm anaemic and when the cell count goes down, I hear the rush and rush off to the doctor's for confirmation.

I'd head to the surgery and ask for a blood test.

Most common cause is high blood pressure but of course, many things can cause that. I think it is the first thing the GP would check. It sounds rythmic, like an ultrasound or an echogram.

My blood pressure is perfect. It only happens when blood count is low. I thought you all would think I was bonkers . hahahaha

No lots of people hear noises coming from inside the body, it's only the ones that hear voices that may be bonkers and even then, it is usually the ones that have conversations with those voices.

Might be worth while getting checked out for one of the types of tinnitus.

Well thanks for the responses, very interesting about the blood count but I think I have the answer..

The noise woke me up at 3am this morning, quite unnervingly loud pumping in my left ear. I started to think it might be my BP which I'm on meds for so I crept out of bed and into my study and measured it but it was normal (128/76).

Went down stairs and made a cup of tea and noticed I had a runny nose on the left side, went back to bed. Now I'm up again and I appear to have a head cold, but only on one side. Inevitably it will reach the other side but I'm thinking it was probably some swelling or build-up of pressure up in the 'tubes' that caused the tinnitus, which appears to have subsided for now.

Panic over, I'll let you know if I hear any voices 🙄

Glad to hear the problem's solved! I sometimes get a bubbling noise in my ears - a sort of ear fart! 🙂

Haha, I often hear a voice that says "go on, have another" but only when I'm drinking alcohol.

Bloden, I get that occasionally, I put it down to the Metformin..
