Any good , friendly sites out there ?

Of course nothing beats face to face contact but I find that very difficult at times

Lots of bullying on certain social platforms

I don’t do social media for that reason, this forum is my limit! However, if you’re interested, have you tried searching under things that you are interested in to see if there are any sites? People all together discussing hobbies and interests are hopefully less likely to get into arguments and nastiness!

Some of it is shocking isn't it ?

My interests are cardiff city football , fishing , heavy rock music , walking and ....these days ....healthy eating lol

For a while I found it quite amusing to browse the local Facebook Spotted, which you could read without having a Facebook account but couldn’t post anything. It’s supposed to be where you can ask if anyone can recommend a good plumber/gardener/dance school etc etc or suggest anyone who can do these things; but the amount of people who used it to post images of bad parking (some of which wasn’t that bad, and of course confronting the driver is completely out of the question, let’s just have a moan online) or complaining about noise pollution when they live next door to a pub (which has been there a lot longer than their house) etc was in equal measures hilarious and terrifying! I’d never dare post anything on such a site, because whilst some people may agree with me, many more wouldn’t. Sadly they’ve now changed it so you can only read about 3 posts before it forces you to sign in, and I’m not going to set up an account just to read that!
Anyway, I digress… hope you can find something related to one of your interests!

Bluesky seems nice so far, can have seperate feeds related to each of your interests which I like
I wonder a bit whether it's just too small to have become nasty yet, but likely it'll continue being nice for a while. reddit is similarly compartmentalised.

I can tell you from personal experience that Bluesky is much closer to Twitter than anyone wants.

A shared interest in not having anything to do with the muskrat does not a convivial atmosphere make.

Several neurodivergent people have told me that Kaboose is good.

Amongst the main big sites (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) it's worth checking if you're looking for something specific.

For example, if you're interested in knowing where you can dance social Argentine tango you want to look on Facebook because that's where most of the announcements are. For other hobbies I presume other sites are more dominant.

It is very much like Twitter. Like Twitter a few years ago. For better and for worse.

I've no idea what it'll be like (presuming it doesn't get sold) in a few years. In theory it has a protocol and can be decentralised, so if that happens then there's potential for it staying usable (there'll be multiple front ends with differing policies and it should be possible to find one you like), but the same's true for Threads. I'm not that confident it'll happen. For a while Google's chat system (well, one of its many chat systems) used XMPP and was part of the XMPP network, but they shut down the interoperability (and maybe that was one of their chat systems that they shut down entirely, I lose track).
