I recently posted here about getting tingling headaches, which after a few days have got progressively worse and the tips of my fingers also go tingly and it makes it very hard for me to concentrate.
I spoke to the diabetes nurse and she said it is probably because my nerves where so used to high BG that they are freaking out from lower sugar levels.

Has anyone else experienced this?

How long might it last?

anything I can do to relieve them?

thanks guys

This is quite a common problem jedisoldier, it's called 'transient nueropathy'. Whan your nerves are use to being bathed in high sugar concentrations in the blood they can become more sensitive when you blood sugars improve. It shouldn't last long, if you can maintain good control 🙂

ok thank you. Its making me lose sleep and causing me to get easily confused so hopefully won't have it too long.

I had transient neuropathy in my jaw, hand and shoulder. The shoulder was a couple of weeks to go, the jaw was with me for a few months (intense pain when chewing initially) but it got progressively better so after a few weeks it was much more bearable. Both got considerably better as soon as I got some stability with my blood sugar. BTW don't be afraid to push if the pain becomes difficult, after the fact they told me there was medication that would help with the pain, which would have made life easier, shame they didn't tell me that at the time 🙄

Sorry to hear you're suffering with headaches, Jedi. I didn't have a specific pain when first diagnosed, but I did feel like rubbish for the first 6 months on insulin - tired, nauseous, dizzy...and all the books I was reading about dbs were full of silly, happy, smiling people! Boy, did they look happy jabbing and stabbing, and always with an equally ecstatic muggle friend by their side! 🙄

Hope you feel better soon.😱

yeah they suck big time, at worst it feels like wasps stinging my head and my vision just goes blurry. they are stopping me sleeping at night until I can't stay awake any longer.
the diabetic nurse doesn't seem to worried about it but I feel it is going to start effecting my work.

You will start to feel better. Since going back to work in November I've had bad days and good days. The good days are starting to outnumber the bad days and the bad days aren't as bad as they were.

That's good news, Khskel.😱

Good I'm glad the codeine is helping a bit, nerve pain is really horrible so I hope it passes soon. it takes the body a while to adjust I think 😱
