When I went for my review yesterday the consultant looked at my injection sites and suggested I start injecting much higher up on my tummy that I have been doing. He warned me that I may need as much as 20% less insulin and I was sceptical. However, I injected earlier today, reducing the dose by a unit (7 instead of 8) and 90 mins later I was at 2.7 😱 Tonight I took a reduced dose with my tea (11 instead of 13) and two hours later I'm at 3.9!

He was telling the truth! 😱

higher as in above your tummy button? i am always in the lookout for new sites!!

Yes - I have been injecting mostly below my tummy button because I have lots more flesh there. Now I am injecting about an inch or so above my tummy button, to the left and right sides. Not as much flesh so I thought it would hurt, but it doesn't 🙂

humm, wonder if i could put my pump there, my tummy is getting sore and i find using my hips and legs painful and not practical!

I've had this exact same experience. My injection sites were failing on my lower stomach so DSN suggested injecting much higher up, I hadn't even thought of doing that! Needed to decrease insulin quite a bit too. 🙂

that's astonishing actually, I inject all over the place, but it is probably safe to say some days when I have unexplained highs or even lows that it may be down to this...........

Were else do you inject Alan.....?

I must admit that the consultant was right when he said you can become a bit lazy in choosing your injection sites, choosing where it is most comfortable and reliable, so I have mostly been using my lower tummy for the past few months, although I do occasionally use my hips. Nowhere else though, I tried my legs once but it hurt and came up in a massive bruise, so didn't go there again!

bum cheeks are quite popular for me, never sore and never seen by anyone apart from the misses, if it does bruise, which it doesn't, my stomach is bad and I get the odd one on my legs........

get rotating......🙂

Hmmm...now I'm 12.8 :( I guess the insulin must have been absorbed much quicker from the new injection site, causing the low, and then I haven't had enough insulin to deal with the hypo treatment!

Perhaps you were injecting into fatty areas before, so it would take longer to absorb?.

It's like a game of chequers this, isn't it? you get all comfy in one place, someone moves you (Your consultant) and your now fighting to gain that comfy place back again !! it's all so complex. No wonder I got all grizzly yesterday, sigh... it's just on my mind constantly. why does your whole life revolve around food???? (Still a tad grizzly today, more grumpy now though..) :(

Hope your day improves 🙂 It's something that non-diabetics take for granted, but having to consider every morsel of food you consume and how you're going to deal with it, worrying if you might get it wrong and what the consequences might be is a source of constant 'background' stress, I think. I wrote this poem when it struck me how casual people are about stuffing their faces without a care in the world:

Like the poem.....must admit that it would have been nice if there had been some time in my life when I hadn't had to worry about the effects of food on my BGs........just to have a fortnight's holiday away from thinking about it would be heaven......oh well that ain't going to happen so will just have to get on with it!!!:D

Poem was so true Alan, you sure have this diabetes thing nailed right on the head. well, I'm just waiting for a spike in my levels, as I made some Muesli yesterday with all sorts in it, I had NO idea how much to bolus so I did a 6u 'quesstimate' and bugger! .... I'm off to do some retail therapy!!

will try next week when i have a few days off, just in case!

Yes i use above tummy button and all across through to hips/buttock area without any problem for my pump. I must admit my control seems to go a bit haywire when i use the buttock but above tummy is fine. Can hurt a wee bit going in but we are use to pain eh? 😉

Holy moly! Cheers for passing that on Alan, another variant to play with yipee!!
