HI Friends or Fellow Diabetics my Diabetic nurse as just given me a call and told me that I am doing everything right with my diabetes and she is well pleased that I have lowered my insulin intake but I have to make sure that I eat at lunchtime no skipping meals. I was then informed that my HBA1C is sitting at 54 and she said that this is excellent for me and I guess for them as well, but I am to carry on doing what I have been doing by looking after my Diabetes. So I need to alter my shopping list and include lunchtime meals and things to buy instead of missing lunch. I am not pregnant but just a lately I have been craving for plenty of different cheeses to try this is at teatime not lunchtime.

54 isn’t at all shabby! Well done!

Great stuff @kevinr

Nice to hear your nurse is pleased with your progress.

Onwards and downwards!

Thank you everydayupsanddowns. I have a question about if we are ill and being sick. If I have took say tablets like Metformin which I don't take and my insulin and I start vomiting if I took more insulin to replace the dose I have lost would it be Dangerous to do it.

This would be dangerous Kevin. Being sick would not mean you lose a dose of insulin because the insulin has been injected so it will still work. Taking an extra dose after vomiting could make you very low especially as you are on mixed insulin.

If you are vomiting you probably will more likely need to sip sugary drinks as your insulin is working to cover your meals regardless of whether you feel up to eating them or not.

Did you ask about switching to a more flexible insulin regime when the nurse said you have to eat lunch? Injecting insulin to suit what and when you want to eat would be better than being forced to eat lunch because of your insulin.

Sorry Lucyr I am calling you Molly I haven't had a great day today things have gone from bad to worse. I knocked my camera off the side of my cabinet and the lens skidded across the floor it will cost me about £225 to get it repaired or I might buy a new one.

@kevinr - Sept 3rd - Senjutsu - Up the Iron's!

Thank you Kreator. I try to forget Sep 3rd as this was the day I got married plus it was the start of the Second World War it was a bad omen for me. What's that song, it can only get better well not for me it didn't on that date

Hi Kreator you don't have to apologise I just take it in my stride. I know of the new album but to be honest with you I don't like the song The Writing Is On The Wall. I am a avid Iron Maiden fan but I don't rate the new album but it might grow on me it took me about 18 months to get to like Virtual X.

So 2 weeks ago my HbA1c came back as 51 , nurse tested it again this week and the result as come back as 50!
She's going to discuss this with me on the 15th of this month!

There is not really a difference in the two as the HbA1C is the average over 3 months so testing at that interval would be covering much the same period of time hence why it is usually 3 months minimum between tests although if it is for diagnosis they sometimes do repeat the test.
But with the shortage of blood tubes and appointment slots that is going to become less likely at the moment.
Even at that level some further tweaks to your diet should be able to bring your levels down, so keeping a watchful eye on your carbohydrate intake and making a food diary so you have something to show to your diabetic nurse/ GP when you see them would be a good plan.
