Having first A1c test tomorrow early tomorrow since initial diagnosis and I suppose results will be in by around Friday of this week.
I've been looking forward to getting these result in now for a few weeks but tonight feel strangely disquieted, what if the changes to my diet, my weight loss and increase in activity have done little or nothing to my A1c levels
Where do I go then ?...
It's not pleasant having diabetes at all sometimes, just saying ..!

To be honest, Martin, at these early stages the results are likely to be all over the place while you are adjusting to your new lifestyle... The thing to note is that seeing as your BG's have come down, your A1c is likely to be down....

I’m guessing it’s just nerves. None of us want to think all our hard work is for nothing I’m sure you will see great results. I’m in the same position as yourself my first test since diagnosis is Friday next week I will probably be in the same position as yourself next week.

Nerves about your test are understandable Martin, but as Martin Canty has said, if your finger prick results are lower then it’s a safe bet your a1c will also be lower, you have worked hard for this so believe in yourself. Remember this isn’t the end game, it’s simply the first hurdle of the race for life 😉

Martin9, my 2nd Hb test is tomorrow at 8.25am. I was diagnosed at 98, 3 months later it was 38. Trust me, yours will be lower than your initial test. I think mine might be higher than 38 as when first diagnosed I went crazy by the book.
Think I've calmed down a bit, still not eating c**p but a bit more flexible (more treats now and again) exercise regularly and taking this thing seriously. As long as it's low 40s, I'll be happy as I've put in the hard work.
You'll be fine, it's a long journey. 🙂

Hi Martin, It`s all a bit up in the air until we establish our own regime. I`m sure you will be pleased with your result and we are all rooting for you.

Good luck! I reckon you'll be fine with it.

Good luck with your test.

Thanks. Just had my life source extracted....spur of the moment booking straight after with my Doc (NHS at their finest again) took me off Gliclazide/test strips, a good thing.
No more testing, yeah right *Puts in order for Codefree) 🙂

I think it's natural to have a little 'fear of the unknown' - I have had a very good HbA1c practically since diagnosis, but I'm still a bit apprehensive every time! 😱

Hope the tests go well for all of you 🙂

Ok this morning I arrive at GP surgery, go to reception, hi I'm M for 8.50am appointment with Diabetic Nurse Miss C, ok M , but your appointment is with Nurse S, I said my appointment was with DN Miss C, receptionist shrugs and I think it's only a blood test, and go to sit down and wait. Meanwhile while I'm waiting Mrs another lady arrives. and sits down, 10 mins later on, the electronic billboard, Mrs An Other please go to room 21 to see DN Miss C..I thought there's my appointment and I'm still waiting, 20 minutes later I get my name called to go see Nurse S. Hi what are you here for..Me well I'm here for an A1c test, ok I can do that but you should have made an appointment with the DN Miss C 😱😱😱.
I said I did but somebody changed it...😡, she says oh well let's get this done as I'm really behind this morning, and is hovering over me with syringe as I'm rolling up my sleeve, bloods taken and out within 5 mins, with not a question about how I was, how were things going etc..
DN to phone me on Monday next with results...!
Couldn't really make this up, like a comedy skit...😛

Just because I've been waiting for an opportunity to use the word "phlebotomist" ... where I am you can just walk into any one of a dozen clinics with a form from yr doctor and get the blood taken by a phlebotomist with a few minutes wait; no need for an appointment; results delivered to yr doctor next day.

So much about the NHS sounds cumbersome compared to Oz, but no doubt there's much which is better also.

Well that was what happened to me a phlebotomist today, no interest in my diabetes ..just a blood letter..!

Well, everyone in Oz is so fit and healthy - never seen a single overweight smoker in Neighbours or Home and Away, plus the population is much younger, apart from Helen Daniels and Alf Stewart 😉 I suspect the differences are accounted for by relative population sizes and demands on the system (plus political will to fund it).

First bit: Ummm, well ...

Second bit: No doubt. It's interesting how many UK-expat GP's there are around here ... including my excellent tough nuggety little guy from Liverpool.

Here, in the States, I just turn up at the hospital with the orders from the Practice Nurse.... In & out in a few minutes, longest part is waiting to see the receptionist to have the paperwork generated.
