Emboldened by my recent Hba1c result, today I ate my first pear since diagnosis. The info on the packaging informed me carbs 11g per 100g. I threw caution to the wind and ate an entire pear.

Reader, the pear was absolutely delicious.

There's one in my fridge that eyes me up every time I opens the door ..... been eating them every few days for a few months now. I use a lot of kitchen roll to eat a pear though !

I bet if you had eaten that pear pre-diagnosis it would probably just have tasted "alright".
I love that my diagnosis makes me enjoy and appreciate some foods so much more than before. I know it is just that we no longer take these foods for granted and they become special, as they should be, but we have taken our varied western diet for granted for too long and in some respects it is nice to have a reset on our approach to food. One of my treats is to have a prune or dried apricot or fig when my levels are getting a bit low. There was a time when I would have eaten a whole packet and not blinked, but now I really savour just one or maybe two if levels are dropping and think myself fortunate. It is refreshing to be not just satisfied with less but more appreciative of it.

Slurp! I love a pear when it's 'just right' 🙂

Hope the impact on your BG was minimal @Sharron1

Tbh, I decided not to test. I figured, having just had a Hba1c I could 'afford' to live dangerously. Tomorrow it is back to usual fare.

I have a pear every other day @Sharron1 and an apple in between those days, enjoy.

I bet you thoroughly enjoyed your celebratory pear, time for some more experimenting methinks.
I love pears esp when ripe and juicy. So far my meter likes them too , only one though, it also like a peach or a nectarine , strawberry I can eat by the bucketload .

Funny, but I much prefer a firm slightly under ripe conference pear or Cox's apple with a good crunch. Hate slurpy fruit with juice that dribbles down your chin!

My favourite pear is a nice ripe Williams pear .
