Congratulations Sue, fantastic news.
I didn't do so good Sue and my LDL is still higher than the HDL as well, would have thought that would have changed by now.My figures are also between 5 and 9 but I only test occasionally now, mainly lower figures. Still have carbs but nothing like I used to. Saying that I am presently eating a large chicken salad roll, I have one about every two months yum x good luck for your upcoming test, let us know how it went
Oh sorry if you are disappointed, we work so hard don’t we and hope we are doing enough. I haven’t had the results of my cholesterol yet as have my review on Wednesday. I’ve no idea how that will go but as I’m on a statin I’m hoping it won’t be too bad. Have asked to come off it but the dr rather shockingly told me I had coronary heart disease yet the cardiologist said it was just a precautionary measure. I’m fed up with all these tablets, all these appointments and all these changes (sorry quick whinge there). I have DN review, DN dietician and physio this week as well as working and having grandchildren.I didn't do so good Sue and my LDL is still higher than the HDL as well, would have thought that would have changed by now.

That’s really good Grace well done, nice feeling isn’t it.Oh well done. I had my second HbA1c check recently. When I had my first test (when I was diagnosed) it was 101. After three months on insulin, it had dropped to 55. They do want it lower but they're conscious of me going into hypo, but to almost half it in three months I was really happy with.

I notice from your signature that your bg went up due to stress, I hope that has settled and you can concentrate on yourself. It’s amazing what an effect outside forces play!
Let it out Sue . Great feelingI have a warm smile inside me that no-one can see
diet change and exercise would help up the LDL
Do you mean "up the HDL"? Just because that's the "good" cholesterol. My experience is that getting HDL to go up is like banging your head on a rock. My diet now is just what it's supposed be for this, I'm exercising way more, I've given up smoking, I'm taking max statin dosage - all things which are supposed to increase it. Result: HDL stuck at 1.0 for about the last year, refusing to budge.
On the other hand, I don't think it's that big a deal, from what I've read. Getting LDL lower is much more important and at the same time, much more doable.
Its the LDL I need to lower Eddy preferable, I believe the LDL and HDL should be in balance or better to have the HDL higher than the LDL. I can't fathom why my cholesterol after 3 months has more or less remained the same with this diet change and exercise, as I mentioned under normal circumstances my cholesterol level would be good. But the LDL is too much higher than the HDL.
How are you doing the lowering of LDL?
I think the numbers you quoted before didn't show yr LDL, just your HDL and total cholesterol. Do you know what yr LDL is?
I've never heard of the LDL/HDL balance thing - where does that come from, do you know?
It might help to bear in mind the standard formula: Total cholesterol = LDL + HDL + half (approx) Triglycerides.
What you quoted just showed total and HDL, I think. So without knowing yr trigs, can't say what yr LDL might be.
I'm on a mission to get my LDL as low as possible, because maybe it will promote some regression to my atherosclerosis. Avoiding all saturated fats and refined carbs and exercise can help with that, to a limited extent, but usually statins will be much more powerful. If you're one of the great majority of people who can tolerate them, I'd say go for it, if that's what your docs recommend.
I'm down to 1.0 as of May, after doubling my statin dose and cutting out all dairy. Since then I've redoubled the statin dose and hoping to see say 0.7 at next test in September.
The low LDL is : Serum non high density lipoprotein cholesterol level 3.8 mmol/L
My HDL is only : Serum HDL cholesterol level 1.35 mmol/L
The triglycerides 3 months ago was 1.5 not sure what they are now.
No, serum non high density = total - HDL = LDL + half triglycerides.
Your total is 5.1 and yr HDL is 1.35. If yr trigs are still 1.5 then yr LDL is 5.1 - 1.35 - half of 1.5 = 3.0.
Are you saying my LDL is 3 and not 3.8?
