Hba1c readings

As you say many Type 2s like The Bixby may not have CGMs so are unaware of theTIR aspect and yes my next Hba1c is more out of curiosity than anything else.
I'm pretty confident both measures, together with other measures like glucose variability (and the proportion under 3.9, over 10.0, etc., not just TIR) will be used for the foreseeable future. They're measuring different things (though overlapping to some extent), and I'm sure there are occasions when some are more appropriate than others.

Morning I was certainly not expecting this morning but wanted to record it as a very seldom event both on the same day.
Good luck all

You're on a roll ....

Nice!

I was going to say I'm pretty sure that 41 is in the non diabetic range so really good but I see others have said the same thing. Just waa wondering was this a gp surgery diabetic nurse or a hospital diabetic specialist nurse. I have personally found the former be a bit less clued up about something's

Actually this was a one off appointment with a diabetic nurse at a moorfields eye clinic I"m having treatment at so I probably won't see her again, funny enough she was really good and helpful up until that last comment.

Eye clinic was it actually a diabetic nurse or just the people that check your eyes when I have my eyes check im asked about my control but i try not to dicuss it with them(i will usually rattle of my last HBA1C(but in my experience that usually stops the conversation) the only people i will talk to about things are the team i see at hostipal. It does sound like this is a nurse that doesn't understand what they are talking about it

She was a specialist diabetic nurse for that clinic and the only person I've properly spoken to since July when diagnosed so I welcomed the chance to speak to someone although through being on this forum I'm realising how different everyone reacts to certain foods or diets and you have to find your own path really

Oh that really does surprise me then. I really don't why she thought 41 wasn't good.

Just maybe folks - unlike some people who work in general hospital outpatients departments - since Moorfields Eye Clinic is specifically that and they do get to see and treat one helluva lot of people with diabetes every day of the week she knows only too well what the forum have just told The Bixby that nobody told him before - ie it can be dodgy both for eyes and also peripheral nerve endings to 'suddenly' reduce HbA1c from 3 figures to 41 too quickly.

Just a thought - some nurses - and some HCAs - do take more of an interest in their work than their Job Description basically states as requirements.

Maybe. If that were the reason for her comment I'd expect a bit of an explanation, though, since it's a counter intuitive result that's not that well known.

Oh yes that's a good point actually I didn't think about that @Thebixby8 maybe that's what she meant she was concerned it droped to quickly?

It's a valid point and nothing wrong playing devil's advocate but there was certainly no explanation whatsoever to suggest that's what she meant and not something I believe.
Apart from that she was decent and helpful!

Don't feel deflated! Re inflate yourself imeadiatly, thats a stunning result!

Somewhat of a newbie and just wanted to ask something, diagnosed in July type 2 with a high Hba1c of 121.
On Metformin and have stuck to a reasonable low carb diet my november blood test came back at 41.
Saw a diabetic nurse this morning who took a blood test which also came back as 41 and her comment to me was"it's not good but not bad either"
Is it just me who thinks that comment is somewhat understated as I thought I was doing really well to get down to that level and it made me feel a little deflated.

I can assure you your progress is excellent. I too was well into the hundreds and eventually got to where you have got to but not quite as quick. I was assigned a hospital diabetic consultant who stated to a junior doctor that she was unlikely to see progress like mine again - glad yours has been even better than mine. I'd go with the diabetic consultants opinion rather than your nurse's opinion - like others I am aghast and disappointed to hear what your nurse said - it is is ridiculous, untrue and could have been dispiriting, so I am glad you sought others' views on here.

Also, remember the HBA1c is a three month average so you may possibly be moving even lower than 41 at your next reading.

well done to you 🙂
