Results came back last week but had to wait until last night to get them as gp wanted to see me and as it turns out it was yet another locum and the result was 10.2😱😱 so he has given me glimipiride to take as well as the insulin and linagliptin:(

Sorry to hear this Caroleann :( That's quite a strange mixture of medications - insulin plus meds to stimulate your pancreas to produce more, erm, insulin - why not simply change your insulin? What insulin are you on currently?

currently on novorapid and levemir alan i have to agree with you,i am very wary about taking more but at least the pharmacist has agreed to make sure i am ok whilst i am taking them.
This doc was a bit of a wally he told me if i go hypo go straight to the hospital nothing about treating it,bet the hospital are pleased with him if he tells all his diabetic patients that.

Hmm...not good :( One does wonder if his knowledge of the medications is also poor. Do you carb count? What sort of doses of insulin are you on? It might make a little sense to add the glimipiride if you were only on levemir, but as you are on novorapid already I don't really see how it can be better than simply increasing your meal-time insulin. Can you get a second opinion? Or even better, since you are on insulin, can you ask to be referred to a consultant-led clinic so that you can see proper experts. Given your HbA1c, I would have thought that the GP isn't really helping you to achieve good levels and it is time to go above his head. That advice about hypos is just atrocious coming from someone who should have at least a rudimentary idea of how to treat one, and the timescales in which it needs to be done (i.e. at first sign of hypo!).

I hope that you get the appointment soon, I would be interested to hear what they say 🙂 In the meantime, I hope that you get on well with the new meds and my doubts are unfounded 🙂

Me too but i fear you are right,it would probably help if they actually lookrd at the reasons why my levels are so high i have a skin problem on my hands and feet possably psoriasis or ezcma i see a dermatologist next week to find out, that and all the stress i have been under for the past year must be having some affect on my levels.
Thank you Alan it has helped talking about it all.🙂

You're very welcome 🙂 I hope the dermatology appointment goes well and they can find the cause and a suitable treatment. My dad has had psoriasis for many years and it was only in recent years that treatments have improved to the point where he is virtually free of it. Stress will undoubtedly have an effect on your levels, and may even be responsible for your skin problem, I believe, if it turns out to be eczema.

Yes, Eczema can be caused/made worse by stress. I had it for nearly thirty years before it suddenly vanished (still not sure why, metabolic changes maybe?).

If it is eczema there are some things you can do that may help. Don't use hard soap, try a ph neutral liquid soap instead - hard soap can have a drying effect on the skin. Avoid hot baths/showers as they make make the itching worse. In fact, avoid showers altogether for a while because they are also quite abrasive. Try adding a little Lavender oil and/or Tea Tree oil to the bath water, both should help alleviate the itch and promote healing as well as moisturising the skin.

Try to find some light weight cotton gloves and socks and at night before bed, coat your hands and feet in a good layer of heavy duty moisturiser then put the gloves/socks on (keeps the stuff on your skin and off the sheets). Something with Aloe Vera in it might also soothe the itch.

I hope you get things sorted out soon. And get some sense out of the DSN. That locum sounds really useless.

Just a little update on how things are going BGs are now between 9 and 15 was between 17 and 28 before so a little improvement and after using the aveeno cream the doc prescribed there is a huge improvement in my skin condition as well🙂
