Hi guys, sorry for the late response. I have spoken to my diabetic nurse now. First off I should add a slight correction to my previous posts. My HbA1C was in fact 12.5% not 12.3%. Checking the converter this equates to 113.1 mmol/mol or 17.3 mmol/L the latter of which is the measurement which I get from my blood monitor. I know my meter readings are a snapshot rather that an average over time, but as that's all I can use for comparison I have to do just that. I hope this is all correct so far. I do have another meeting with her on Monday during which I will be bringing up a lot of what's coming below...
I queried the large difference in results I am getting from my monitor (mine has never been more than 6.1 even after eating) and she has just said I must be doing really well to get it down so quickly. I do find it very odd though that I have managed to reduce it by so much in 2 weeks when other people seem to struggle for years trying to get their levels down. I have recently been less careful about watching the carbs just to test things out, where I'm having the odd meal here and there which is quite a bit more carb heavy and still my meter reading hasn't gone above 6.1. I had a shop bought wagyu burger in a bun, with a small portion of french fries for example and 2 hours later my reading was 6.1. I am tempted to go mad one day just to see if it makes a difference but part of me worries that I might regret it if I do so haven't... yet. But basically, if I hadn't been told I was type 2 I would never have known it from my meter readings. I am currently taking 2000mg of Metformin so that is obviously going to have some effect. What I don't know is how much. I intend to try to push to come of that fairly soon as well as it looks like it's possible I can manage without it.
For my piece of mind, I am hoping there is some other kind of test which checks if I am indeed diabetic because so far all the indications are that I have at my disposal say that I'm not. I should also point out that I have already been tested twice. The first time the doctor said "You definitely haven't got diabetes" and the second test came back that I have (the tests were within 2 weeks of each other). I was also asked when diagnosed if I'm often thirsty and/or go to the toilet a lot - the answer was no on both counts. I have also never had a hypo.
Sorry guys, I know I'm just throwing all my thoughts down in this reply but I promised to report back so here it is 🙂
Has anyone here managed to reduce their levels from very high to normal within 2 weeks? Or is it just me? I am considering paying to get a private test as a second (well, third really - best of 3 and all that) opinion as my GP won't do another test for another 6 weeks and I really am starting to having doubts about my diagnosis and if not, why I am managing to keep my readings normal with not that much effort now to be honest.
Thanks in advance everyone and congratulations for getting this far 🙂
