How often do you have your HbA1c's done?

Do yours include:
Total Cholesterol
good cholesterol
bad cholesterol
Triglycerides
kidney Function

I have mine done once every 6 months usually, and get kidney and liver function tests also. I don't get the cholesterol split, just the total and the good. I've never been told my triglycerides.

I get full bloods done 2-3 times a year depending on how often I see the specialists. I get given all the results including the break down of the Cholesterol and Thyroxine levels.

Normally its just once a year as docs says thats all type 2's need. This year I have had 4 or 5 (just the HbA1c) as BS has been high (no thanks to the docs).

The full Service will be brought forward to October, unless my BS keeps going up, which it is, its great 1st thing in the morning, afternoons are a different matter.

I get mine done 3 x per year, mainly as I have to have my thyroid function tested every 4 months and the tests have therefore always been done at the same time. I don't get a breakdown of any of them but know that all in your list are tested, just told if they are all ok and given the HbA1c.

My answer is, every time I go to the hospital clinic (normally twice a year) plus once for my MOT at the doctors even if the latter is around the same time as the former and I happen to have the blood taken for the GP surgery before the hospital have sent me the forms for theirs .............

This is because the GP can see the hospital's results but the hospital can't see the GP's results !

Every 6 months, the practise diabetic nurse wanted me to go to 9 months; but as my HBA1c went up slightly I refused & she left it at 6 months. I also have Kidney/Liver tests & get Total Cholesterol/HDL & if I remember to ask the ratio between the good & bad.

Only time I had Triglicerides (sorry can't spell) checked was when I took part in an trial for low dose aspirin for T2 to see effect on blood platlets. It was 0.97 which I was told was very good the lowest they had ever seen. Apparently it would only be tested if you had very high amounts of the bad cholesterol. But how bad the LDL would have to be I don't know.

HbA1c- every 3 months
Full bloods -TFT-Coeliac-chol- 1x per yr

The gap between tests seems to depend on the last result. At the beginning it was 3 monthly, then 6, then 12, back to 6 when I let go of the reins. My last one was October and I haven't been called by my new doctor... my last one was 5.9. I'll make an appointment when we get to October. It will probably be quite good, with morning readings (when I take them) of 4s and 5s and post meals mostly the same with a very occasional 6 or 7. Thank you Mr Pancreas.

Why waste money on the test if I have no intention of taking statins? 🙂

....I would have thought money worth spending to identify whether you have high cholesterol or not, regardless if you choose to take statins or not.

As I do not want the treatment on offer, what exactly is the point?

Ah but as you know the result of your cholesterol you worry.
I don't know and don't care so don't worry :D

You do have a point there Sue. Like you, I have no intention of going on statins, but admit to being a bit dismayed when my chol had gone up last time - I still did nothing about it, but it did niggle me! 🙂

When I went to ( DESMOND ) last year we were all told to ask for statins from are GP so how come no one wants it? only asking as we were told to ask for it.....I personally have not as I do not want more drugs!!! 🙂
