Hi all, does anybody have any idea how accurate the a1c estimation from the libre is compared to official blood test. I haven't had one done for 6 months ish and was wondering if anybody has had results similar to their freestyle wondering if I can trust my libres estimation of 5.4 ( be more than happy with that )

Many of us have found that the Libre reads slightly low compared to finger prick BG results, and similarly the predicted HbA1c is slightly lower than our blood test HbA1c result. Only a matter of 2-4mmols/mol.... not sure how that would equate to the % reading but just a couple of decimal places I would imagine.

Ahh Thankyou very much so the 5.4 equals about 36 mmol so are we thinking about 38-40 tops then ?

My Libre predicted an HbA1C of 35.
My blood test came back at 45.

I am only a sample of 1 but, based on that, I wouldn’t trust the Libre HbA1C.

Thankyou helli , well I won’t get too over excited right now then because that quite a big difference!

Yes, but why do we want to know? Time in target is a far better indicator of control.

EAG (estimated average glucose) conversions to HbA1c predictions always seem to underestimate for me too.

I’ve not had an A1c for over a year now, so I don’t know about Dexcom, but Libre was always a bit optimistic in the past.

I have a friend who is a DSN and has diabetes and uses the Libre and her own experience and that with her patients is that Libre is usually about 10 mmols/mol below the blood test which I also found a bit disappointing. I haven't had an A1c whilst using the Libre for long enough yet so have no personal experience.

Thanks peely … well I will expect 10 points higher then anything less will be a bonus maybe I should start a new thread and entitle it libre versus venous and see how others compares.

As the Libre 2 is generally more accurate, the Libre 2 A1c estimate is likely to be better. Certainly my diabetes consultant is happy to accept it. I’ve yet to find a reading on the Libre 2 that varies more than 0.4 from a finger prick test. Admittedly, for all you conspiracy theorists, that’s using the reader with Optium test strips.
