I have been trying to find previous HbA1cs dating back to the earliest diagnosis, when information was provided in very general terms. The surgery was initially unable to find my records. (I will be asking again.)
However, it seems that the policy is to rely on one HbA1c only per year. This does not seem sufficient to me.
Comments and personal experiences would be welcome.

HI TBA My expereince is my hna1c has always been done at my yearly MOT as I call it and ive always had it that way since I was diagnosed, personally I would like mine 6 months apart

I have mine annually and am happy with that frequency. I might not be if I didn't home test however as I find those levels the more accurate in monitoring how I'm doing.

Hi...I will have been diagnosed for almost a year in a couple of weeks...have had regular HbA1c tests every three months...I started with very high levels...17.4 at diagnosis...as that reduced there has been no suggestion I lengthen the time between the tests/reviews...my last HbA1c was 46mmols in March this year...I was due another in June...my GP is/was quite happy for me to continue with quarterly tests...I chose to delay that one for six months...if my levels continue to reduce I expect to stop using Metformin... I was concerned I would not get the regular checks/tests I have become used to...on discussing this with my GP he assured me I could still continue with the regular checks...every three months if I felt it necessary...not sure I would want to do that...I do test regularly...so feel confident that if my BG became a problem I would be aware...contact my surgery...however...for those that have been advised no need to test (as I was by several health care professionals I ignored that & have tested regularly)...who rely on that advice...or those that wish to test & cannot self fund...one test/review every twelve months is not enough...there needs to be more frequent HbA1c testing for those that do not test for whatever reason...or do not feel confident managing their diabetes with twelve months between tests/reviews.

Hi . I have mine done routinely every 3 months at gp and also for my atm twice yearly renal appointments.
Personally I think they just like my blood.

I get mine 6 monthly - however if I started having probs then I'm sure they'd order another, though the pump clinic major on meter/pump downloads so are never relying on simply the HbA1c result.

3 monthly for me but only when I complained about them thinking a newly dx diabetic would have it yearly I think not.
I find that care is a lottery when it shouldn't be.
My gp is now off and not back till next year this is July and I believe she went of about April.
I now have to see the other gps that have no clues on my condition now this will be fun.

I can have as many as I want as long as it hasn't been done within the previous 3 months as the Lab just bins the blood sample and sends a rude note back to the GP.
