Appologies for leaving it until now otherwise I would've done the usual 'guess the HbA1c'

HbA1c
(6 monthly) done on 25/10/2012

Test results
HbA1c - 65 (new) 8.1% (old)
Cholesterol - 4 (DSN said very good for this)
HDL - 1.7 (ditto)
LDL - 1.8 (ditto)
Triglcerides - 1.2 (ditto)
Kidney function GFR - 68 (maybe 6.8?)
Blood pressure - 160/70 (rather concerned so have to go back - see below)

Previous HbA1c's
August 2011 - 9.6%
December 2011 - 6.8%
May 2012 - 6.6%

Blood pressure
Went back to have this checked today 04/12/2012. It was 200/80.
At this point had a bit of a chat how diabetes is going on.
Checked blood pressure again but in my other arm and it was 180/80.
I already take ramipril 10mg.
Just had a phone call from the surgery to pick up a prescription tomorrow and am starting on amlodipine. This is to take as well as the ramipril.

It might be worth getting a home blood pressure monitor Gill - I always have much higher readings when tested at the doctors. I got an Omron MX2 Digital Automatic Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor - same brand as the doctor uses and my BP is usually around 110/70. It was 148/85 at the doctors! 😱

Hopefully, with all the testing and adjustments you have been doing, and everything you are learning, you will get that HbA1c back down again next time 🙂

So where have those 6's got to Gill?

Real Life interfering with D and BP?

Thanks for this it looks a good machine. Also like you say there's a big difference in having it done at the doctors and then taking it yourself in a more relaxed atmosphere at home. Reading everything on the net this afternoon I've got myself as having a heart attack at any minute! DSN said that maybe the high blood pressure is something to do with all the hypos. Who knows, it can be anything.

I'm reducing my lantus again tonight so from 22u to 18u! But to come from taking 40u in October this just dosen't seem right!

In a morning when I'm waking up to hypos I've to not just have the jelly babies but also something which is more of a complex carbohydrate, maybe just 1 round of toast but then no injection then later in the morning have my breakfast as usual and depending on my level then do an injection. I have sometimes treated with jelly babies then had a biscuit.

That's quite a spread and the diastolic (67) is good, with the systolic (152) high, but much better than you were getting at the doctor's. Hopefully the new meds will help bring down that high number 🙂 It's a good idea to test at different times of the day too.
