Having a treat

I see what you mean and it is needs must.

Do you not have cravings or do you have any snacks?
Not really can't say I do because I feel full most of the time any snacks would be a few nuts unsalted. It's abit weird but I am eating some lovely low carb food so don't feel I'm missing out like I did when calorie counting, my daily carbs are 90g on average and I'm in no rush to change that,

Great, looks like you got it just right and working for you, well done.

I have been aiming to keep my carbs down to under 20g a day which is called a keto way of eating. I've been doing that for two years now and it has worked for me.

I love food. I have had no difficulty keeping my carbs low because I have looked for ways to recreate my favourite foods using ingredients that are not high in carbs.

Last night I had a yen for strawberry cheesecake after seeing a recipe on a keto Facebook group I am in and I happened to have all the ingredients on hand. I made this.

It is absolutely delicious and it had virtually no effect on my blood sugars.

It is made with double cream, cream cheese, Hartleys sugar free jelly, a handful of frozen strawberries, and the base is made with a sweetener called erythritol and almond flour and butter.

Today I had a big piece for breakfast, lunch and my evening meal.
Not an ideal food day as far as variety is concerned - but fine for my diabetes and as I did 80 minutes of vigorous exercise using my VR headset and used up 348 calories in that time - it was fine as far as calories are concerned too.

I've stopped thinking of food in terms of treats and forbidden and 'good' and just decided to use ingredients that fit within my requirements and then eat anything I want to.

Don't worry you'll be fine once you work out the new things you can choose from. It is like being an artist and you have always painted in water colours and now you've been told you have to paint in oils and never use water colours again. You will learn how to use the new paints (non carb ingredients) and then you'll be creating as happily (low carb food) as before if not better.

Hello,

Brilliant, I am very impressed and that is fantastic for going so low on carbs for so long.

Your cheesecake is fantastic too.

I did go to a big Tesco today, but they did not have or sold almond flour.

I know I can cut right back on carbs, like have scrambled egg for breakfast, rea with no milk, and then chicken salad for lunch and tea, but I would get really hungry and graze all day or get bored. So not saying it can't be done, but you and many others on this forum have inspired me and have given me ideas on alternatives, that is great.thank you.

So, I will look and experiment with different foods, I want to get HbA-1c down from 102 to 80😱r less in the next 3 months.

My carb intake I am looking now under 120 (was over 200) my goal in the next few weeks would be to hit under 90 most days and ideally under 60, the good news is that this is achievable as I am
working from home, but not sure when I go back to work though.

You can get it easily in Tesco but they call it ground almonds.

If you look at the thread on this forum called What did you eat yesterday? You can see posts from me which show very filling and varied ideas for you to get some inspiration as you learn to reduce your carbs.

There is also another thread called Let's learn how to bake/cook keto. It has only recently been started but I (and others) will be adding to it with recipes (I am about to add the cheesecake one today) and meal ideas.

Hello @Newbie777 .
I have said this many times on here,mDiabetes is a marathon not a sprint .
And also, you must do what works for you.
I see others have already given you plenty of ideas,

We have some innovative cooks on here who put their recipes here
For future reference they are one the food and carb queries forum .

Over time my tastes have changed, I used to have a sweet tooth , now though I could still eat a bar of milk choc I really find very sweet now , I now crave things like , walnuts, strong cheddar ,
I love my morning coffee with cream.
Their is nowt wrong with a bit of butter either , it’s just what you put it on that could be a bit of a carbohydrate issue.

Ok great thank you.

I couldn't find it near the flour area so I asked a member of staff and they typed it in their Tablet and told me they don't stock it!

Yes, will have a look at the recipes and try them out.

Cheers

As it's sold as ground almonds the machine would say it wasn't stocked and unless the staff member uses it then they weren't to know, I'm not sure if the function is still available but if you have Facebook if you messaged Tesco they used to have "little helper" which allowed you to check whether an item was in stock at your local store or not, I haven't checked if the function is still available as we've been unable to use Tesco now since the first lockdown xx

It won't be a problem getting it now.

Just getting used all the changes and still recovering from my eye op, so not good finding stuff like I normally would.

Thanks

Holland & Barret if you have trouble getting it

I have a Bamix device with various attachments and all the 'bits' - it is so useful for processing so many things, I use it several times a day, starting with frothy coffee in the mornings.

Look for ground almonds around the shelves where they have the dried fruit and other cake/pudding ingredients; mind you I'd expect normal wheat flour to be not far away from there too.

Thank you
