Just getting a feeling of being fed up with being ill and the D, feels like every week a new illness hits and BS levels one day are up and the next drop rapidly. Blood pressure now up to 96 / 155 and was climbing from the 140's doc now re-started the Ramipril which will take a month to take full effect.

Most days are fighting the now constant hungry feeling, some days I win some I loose and feel as though I rattle some days.

Would be nice to be free of meds for a few weeks, though that's not going to happen.

Current meds.

1. Metformin 2000 mg Big D.
2. Aspirin 75 mg - Thin the blood, on hold as can't take them with another med.
3. Amlodipine 5 mg - Blood pressure.
4. Ramipril 5 mg - blood pressure just restarted.
5. Gliclazide - 120 mg big D.
6. Peppermint capsules - IBS.
7. Iron tablets - 600 mg - anaemia.
8. Simvastatin - reduced to 20 mg, currently running at 3.3.
9. Amitriptyline 20 mg - nerve damage.
10. Codeine 30 mg - Arthritis as required.
11. E45 cream - Dry skin as required.
12. Oilatum cream - Dermatitis as required.
13. Canisten HC cream (mild steroid)- fungal infection, nurse don't know what she's doing as its an allergy reaction, so not taking it.
14. Betamethasone valerate ointment (steroid) - dermatitis as required.
15. Etoricoxib 120 mg - new illness gout in both ankles :(.
16. Omeprazole 20 mg capsules - to combat the side effects of the Etoricoxib as I react very badly with this range of meds.
17. Viscotears gel - eyes.
18. Hypromellose eye drops - eyes.
19. Beconase spray (steroid) - for persistent cough as docs don't know what's causing the cough, trial and error method of diagnoses.
20. Flexitol heel Balm - cracked skin and help blister to heel.
21. CPAP machine - Sleep Apnoea.

Edit missed one of the list.

22. B12 jab - as I can't produce vitamin B12

Good God pav, no wonder you're struggling. ((((HUGS))))

Did you know that gout can be caused by some BP drugs? Might be worth checking your patient info leaflets.

Have you had a lung function test for the cough? I have the classic symptoms with my own asthma, but my daughter's presents as a dry cough. If that's what it is, Becotide would be better than Beconase (inhaled via mouth instead of nose).

As well as peppermint, you could try activated charcoal re: digestive problems.

Amlodipine and ramipril could be contributing to the cough too, may be worth discussing with your doc.

Sorry to hear you are feeling fed-up, hope things can begin to improve for you soon 🙂

Pav, what can I say? That's one heckuva plateful you have to get through, no wonder it all gets on top of you :( Seems very unfair to be on all those meds and still feel bad, I hope you get some good days soon.

I had a persistent cough that drove people nuts. It was found I was terribly anaemic. I was given 6 units of blood and the cough instantly disappeared. Might be worth having your FBC done to check that the iron is enough. I hope you feel better soon and just coming on here to vent is a good help too. Take it easy and ((((hugs)))) for you too. Take care :D

Well anything with steroids in it - even ointment! - can wreak havoc with your BG - diabetes can even be INDUCED by steroid use! (Like if you get summat terrible that causes your brain to swell and there's no option than to use very heavy duty steroids) So you haven't exactly even got all your drugs helping all of you, have you? Deep sigh.

And - Lords knows I'd hate to wish another auto-immune on you - but have they actually ever tested you to see if that IBS is really actually coeliac instead?

Worth asking for a blood test at least - blood test isn't conclusive if it's negative though, but if your symptoms persist when it is negative, GPs are sposed to refer you to Gastroenterology and send you for a biopsy.

Apologies if you've already been there, done that.

Hi pav,

I feel for you, I really do.

When did you last have a medication review? There are medicines in your list that don't make sense. People with high blood pressure are advised against NSAIDs and yet you are prescribed Etoricoxib which is a NSAID and then you are prescribed Omeprazole to combat the effects????? Long term use of Omeprazole carries risks too especially with bone health.

Amlodipine can cause ankle swelling and yet you have gout in your ankles. I wonder if this is a wrong diagnosis and it is the Amlodipine that is the problem?

All the steroid based lotions and potions will play havoc with your blood sugars too.

Do you see the same G.P. each time? If you do then I would take the opportunity to see a different one in the practice or even your pharmacist who will probably be more knowledgeable about the interactions.

Hope you feel brighter soon.

Maisie.

hello pav
I am "no expert" but i can't believe that taking 21 diff meds is effective on any level. Sure they must counter each other on some level ???? - can you get a second opinion on this maybe by going to another GP?
good luck x

Thanks for all the replies and will try and answer the questions.

Seeing the same doctor is not an easy option as they don't seam to stick around that long at the GP. A few do, but take the approach being in the 20's with ones BS is ok, so don't really trust them about things. Now on the hunt for a new doctor again, feels like a stuck record finding one with decent diabetic support.

With NSAIDs I can't tolerate them some give me severe stomach pains even after taking one tablet (naproxen) is the worst for me. Surprised they put me back on them as a previous doctor ruled out giving me any more in the future. I still get mild stomach ache with the new one and taking the Omeprazole to counter react the Etoricoxib.

I have been off the Ramipril for 3 to 4 months approx. to see if they were causing the cough. No substitute was put in place of the Ramipril even after I queried this. Finally they put me back on to it when my BP hit the 96 / 155 a bit late.

The lung performance test was on the cards after proving Ramipril is not causing the problem, which is no longer being offered as an investigation.

Never been tested for coeliac, I also used to take Fibregel ruff age to help with the IBS but now don't take it at the moment as diet has improved from what it used to be.

As for a meds review its usually me and via this forum that my meds get changed. After information found on here I challenged the dose of metformin and Simvastatin as they were above the recommended doses to be taken on their own or when used with other meds.

I got side-effects from ramipril (nausea, no cough) and was changed to candesartan which I tolerate well. The two types of BP med are quite different in the way they work - might be worth asking about? (there are lots of different '-sartan' drugs, just as there are lots of '-pril' drugs).

One doc was on about changing the BP medication to a different at the time I queried that stopping the Ramipril would cause a rise in my BP, but as usual they ignored the queries.

When starting on statins all those years ago I seam to remember having problems with some of the, but was that long ago can't remember what the problems were.
