Hate food

I suggest you have a look at the Harcombe Diet and the Freshwell low carb website. Either of these approaches will fill you with good food and confidence for the future.

Also have a look at the short Diabetes UK T2 Remission video on this website or on YouTube. Message: lose weight now and enjoy good health in future.

Are you on any medication for the diabetes @kay88 ? I see from your earlier post that you have PCOS. That can cause insulin resistance and put you at higher risk of Type 2. It’s not your fault. Just concentrate on eating well and exercising and then you’ll know you’re doing the best you can for your body.

Are you fingerpricking? Is that what’s causing the anxiety around food?

Since being diagnosed my anxiety has increased and me and food have a hate hate relationship.....major anxiety over numbers...and just feel like it's all a bit much...all the stigma around T2D doesn't help...
Which numbers are causing the anxiety? Can you stop taking them or are they essential?

thank you - I have been using a Dexcom (self funded) I can't bear the finger pricking....but comments are made around "its a lifestyle disease etc and so it's my fault I have this - so i just dont want to eat at the best of times..

You mustn’t let comments like that get to you @kay88 Some people are just thoughtless. Focus on yourself not anyone else. You don’t owe them anything x

Stop using the dexcom if its making you anxious instead of helping then

If you have weight to lose I wouldn’t worry about the reduced appetite, just take it as a benefit to help you lose weight unless you have any other symptoms you’re concerned about.

Hopefully having used the Dexcom you will have gained some information about what food suit you without increasing blood glucose too much so you could just stick with those for a while.
Some people find that metformin affects their sense of taste making some foods taste unpleasant, could that be why food does not seem too appealing
Look upon making dietary changes as a new way of eating not A DIET and focus on foods you can eat safely not what it is unwise to eat.

Sorry to hear about the impact diabetes has had on your relationship with food, and your levels of anxiety :(

You mention your anxiety having increased - does that mean you’ve had help and support with anxiety in the past? Are there any grounding exercises or similar that you might try?

I think taking a break from the Dexcom, if that is triggering worry is possibly a good idea.

Diabetes can be quite overwhelming in the beginning, and you are so right that the stigma that can surround T2 is so unhelpful :(

But try not to be too discouraged - we have lots and lots of members who have managed to reach a form of acceptance with their T2, a and some if them even look back and can see that their diagnosis became a sort of catalyst towards making positive changes towards a healthier, fitter, and more energised life. 🙂

@kay88 good luck finding what's best for you and what works for you with managing your diabetes, and if it's any consolation many people's journies including mine are varied potted not-perfectly-A-to-B and that's fine! I'm not proud of my self today, but due to very complex meeting with Practice Manager related to my diabetes healthcare and my stress levels causing bad migraine, I rearranged my diabetic nurse appointment and I know full well I haven't lost any weight probably gained recently, but I'm trying hard not to beat my self up and learning to just approach the punching down comments about being overweight and developing quote "lifestyle condition" as water off duck's back coming from ignorant people!

On bad days I remind my self that any exercise any walking I do even if I look and feel very wonky and have limited mobility is progress for me, and I will just ignore anyone who stares and judges as my health and wellbeing are more important than other people's opinions, or... If they ain't paying your bills, pay those b*tches no mind, to quote RuPaul Charles 😉

Stigma is what it is and it can be soul-distroying. To me, it's like we all need to be cloned and airbrushed and become designer models. Life is not like that. I also hate that weight / non-weight issues are all that cause diabetes. It is far greater a complex matter than that. What will help one person does not always help another. I went low carb and reduced my Hb Aa1c however it has changed as has most of my other bloods and I am now on other medication to try and balance my blood. I refused the statins because of the pain and they eventually did more blood results and my B12, folic acid, Vit D and red blood cells were all wrong. Others are borderline but these are much greater a problem now than my HBA1c. So diet can help some but not all.
I tried a Libre but it did not stay on and manage fastclix finger pricking. The problem with it is you can have a coffee one day and your blood can go up 4 points and not move another. Likewise, you can have a tuna salad and that too varies. it can vary because of your metabolism at the time or how much your liver dumps sugar into your bloodstream. Being sick can fluctuate blood too as can hormones and thyroid so it is not all just food. They like to call type 2 self-inflicted but you never asked to have it and not all who are morbidly obese will get it either, and neither will skinny folk sorry not meant to be a negative but they will say I am not fat so why me? It is more likely if you are obese that obesity will not help as there are things like metabolic syndrome that with obesity make diabetes a highly likely outcome.
It is a bit like all runners will get shin splints some non-runners get it too. All non-vaccinated children are at risk of childhood diseases some never get any others who were vaccinated get it too but they say milder.
I am ranting on now. So to get to my point, you have diabetes and know and are doing something about it. Self-funding your Dexcom will have given you what some foods do to you. I either reduce or stop that food if it does make it worse. Movement helps too as does drinking fluids with each meal. Trying to reduce your stress will help too. You can do this and well done for saying you have this and the way forward is to cope with it your way. Forget others as at the end of the day it will be what makes you happy and healthy that matters we are all different.
