I have been on here just under twelve months and not a day goes by without me reading the new posts, the way some of you guys cope and people's sence of humour always makes me feel better, and have learnt more in ten months here than the previous ten years trying to cope on my own, and the tireless work some guys put in to find all this new information and are always there to give incouragement is a credit to you guys.. A big thank you from me and long my you continue.....

Just to echo much of what has already been expressed by others:

- A great source of knowledge

- A great source of support when some of us are feeling out of sorts or struggling to find support elsewhere.

- A sense of community and accessibility that is very re-assuring.

this forum has been like a lifeline for me its like having a online family to ask questions off. i have learnt more about diabeties from here than anywhere else. i have also meet some amasing people at the meets and made some really good friends. this site has helped me though the bad timmes when my mental illness has been bad no matter wot i have posted i have always recieved nothing but kindness in reply. this site has been a life saver for me and i mean that So thankyou to all of you

It's a source of knowledge, ideas and support like no other - (from the "expert patients" as the saying goes, and very true) It's different from the clinical support we have experienced from the consultant and PDSN which left a few grey areas for me and didn't extend beyond a certain level. Good stuff 🙂🙂

I found this forum about a year after my T2 diagnosis. I was picked up for T2 at pre-op tests for breast cancer surgery.

I found a very good & supportive Breast cancer forum of ladies going through the same treatment as me & at the time it helped me cope & come through the other side. Almost time for my 4th annual screening that all is still OK.

Anyway that forum started me thinking whether there was a diabetes equivalent & I found this 1. T2 not a shock as it runs in family my late father, older brother & uncle have it. I realised the genetic link from this forum as I thought I was just unlucky but thanks to info found my younger brother & sister are checked annually by their GP to ensure if they also develope T2 it is picked up at the start. Also all my nieces & nephews understand how important diet/exercise is & also their increased risk.

None of us had any symptoms not overweight & active. But just goes to show lifestyle may contribute but doesn't cause T2 thanks to this forum I feel confident dealing with my T2 & in control of it.

Sorry for novel but not been on recently so got carried away. Thanks to all of you lovely folk for the advice & friendly banter.

Take care
Lynne

Being a part of this forum really helped me to feel less isolated and alone in wrestling BG levels day-in day-out.

Living with diabetes can be a very lonely and isolating experience and it is brilliant to have a place where you can share struggles, stresses and successes in a supportive environment. I'm another who learned more in 6 months on forums about the nitty gritty of BG management than I had in the previous 15-20 years.

Northie is a complete star and there are so many helpful, knowledgeable and friendly faces here that it keeps you coming back even if you don't have any particular questions that need answering at the time.

I am so grateful for this forum. I live alone in a remote area of Spain and am isolated in every sense of the word. When I was ill so many people helped me through it, when I was ill-informed so many people explained the problem - and the solution. I am often without basic needs, lancets, needles etc. and people have sent me some - and the postage ain't cheap. I've even been sent jelly babies. I just wish that I could do something in return. Thanks everyone. - Michael

This forum has helped me greatly, even though I don't post as frequently as I would like. I had a general understanding of diabetes as my brother was diagnosed 12 years before me but therefore, upon my diagnosis, it was assumed that I didn't need much help dealing with it. I found this forum and the help and support I have received on here from Day 1 has been fantastic, diabetes related or not.

This forum has been a massive help and a goldmine of information and support. I was diagnosed about 7 seven years ago and just left to get on with it, along with the GP's diet sheets which I now know to be almost useless!

I don't always post but do read threads most days, and can honestly say I don't know what I'd do without it. There is nothing like hearing about other people's experiences and getting advice from people who know. So in answer to the question 'Has this forum helped you, and if so, how?' I say, Blimey, not 'alf!

Just thought I would give this a bump, as there is now less than a week to go to our 6th birthday! 🙂

This is a great forum. Lots of useful information from people who know (or are learning) how to live with diabetes. As we know, living with diabetes is an all pervading issue - a drop of ink in a glass of water - and we are trying to cope as best we can. However caring and responsive our families and health care professionals are (and some of them are fantastic), the chance to hear how are fellow sufferers are coping is immeasurably useful.

And the members are almost universally kind, sympathetic and keen to help. OK sometimes there is the odd tetchy comment, but who doesn't get a bit grumpy occasionally.

Very happy birthday!

As a parent I do feel I went into serious meltdown at the start-I remember some of my first posts/ questions sometimes seeming daft/dim -no-one ever made me feel daft for asking -offering practical solutions- I thank northerner in particular for responding to my PM's when needed! I send a virtual heart felt handshake- thankyou

The forum is Mint ! To be able to talk to people in the same boat & understand the pitfalls. I don't know how my parents put up in the 60s when things like this were not even thought of. Remember "Life is for Living" 😎

Oops, not been visiting for a wee while so didn't see this.

Found out I had diabetes on the phone after routine MOT. Wouldn't tell me what type, just if I needed them before my first DN appnt I knew where they were. That freaked me out.

Self-sufficient cuss so told nobody - had no idea what to say. Found this site same night. Then found Jenny Ruhl's. By time I saw DN I had my meter, had changed my diet to low carb, and have pretty much self-managed since, so far med free and determined to stay that way.

Maybe not so vigilant last few weeks.., but randomly test... know I eat too many roasted peanuts. Keep expecting to get nut allergy!

If not for this site I'd be dependent on NHS advice and pretty sure I'd not be doing half the same. 😉 Not saying I won't still go downhill.:(

...EDIT... Sorry, think this is in the wrong thread. Should be in the "how helped" one.

Most of the posts here are from those who post regularly, but there are probably many like me who have found the forum immensely helpful by reading threads without posting much or at all.
I found the forum about a year ago, wish it had been sooner. My control over this time has improved dramatically, partly due to a change from mixed insulin to MDI, but also due to the help I have had from following this forum.
I am impressed by the huge patience and support shown by senior members in answering questions, and by the almost total lack of nastiness that seems to invade other forums.
Now I really will head for the Newbies thread and introduce myself properly!
