I can't eat whole nuts or seeds and am thinking of trying these as it looks as if they are a sort of powder or grannules. I was thinking maybe I could add them to cereal, pasta and soup. What do you think?


 
OK for carbs, but very, very expensive. I buy golden linseed (flax seeds, same thing) from Tesco, £1.10 for 250g, and grind them up myself in my blender. If you eat flax seeds whole they tend to pass straight through! I suppose you could similarly mill other seeds and nuts yourself. I'd give the goji berries a miss!

H & B also do plain flax seeds, which can be cheaper than Tesco when they have a good offer on.

I do eat porridge! My meter told me that just porridge and berries was not good, but I have a small portion of oats (old-fashioned kind, never over-processed instant). I then add milled flaxseed and chopped nuts (pecans my favourite) after cooking and a good spoonful of thick double cream and berries. This gives me a rise in bg of 2 - 3 so OK.
 
I'm surprised you can get away with cereal and pasta lol, I'd just buy whole and grind things myself as works out cheaper xx
 
Thank you for your replies. I haven't got a blender or anything to grind. I can't eat any whole seeds or chopped nuts, they have to be ground. I do think they are expensive but am thinking I wouldn't use much and it might last a long time as it would only be a sprinkle.
@silentsquirrel , why would you give the berries a miss? I've never tried them.
 
@Sparkle you can buy a cheap coffee grinder for under £10 that would do the job perfectly well, I certainly wouldn't be paying for the name and the fact they had done the job for me then you could make up your own variety mixes too xx
 
Goji berries - very expensive, much-hyped as a "superfood".

Kaylz is right, you would recoup the cost of a small grinder very quickly.

Most breakfast cereals are far too high carb for us. Some like me manage a little porridge, but others do not. Some find they can eat a very low carb granola. Pasta is also very high carb, but some can eat a small portion. (I don't bother as I never liked pasta that much.)This is why you need a meter, to find out what - and how much - you personally can eat.

Thank you. Please do you have any recommendations? I do not want to spend a lot and I know nothing about them at all. It needs to be easy to use.
 
What’s easy to use for one person may not be as easy for another. Similarly what isn’t a lot of money for one may be loads to someone else.

Which? recommendations aren’t a bad place to start and neither are places like John Lewis or Lakeland websites. That way you can also read reviews.

I have a Sage Boss to Go which scores really well 90% in Which? reviews. I picked it up on eBay for an absolute steal and it’s great so I’d recommend that for a bullet blender type. I’ve also got the spice mill accessory and it’s really useful. However it’s about £120 retail for the blender itself so may be more than you want, or need, to spend.

If you want a standard blender then Which? really rate the Tefal Blendforce Blender. They give it a Best Buy although it’s noisy they say. That’s about £50.

I’ve screenshots of Which? reviews below. Hopefully they make sense!

Precisely my friend, little goes long way.

400g of Chia Seed last me about 12 weeks, teaspoon in porridge each morning when cooking, nutritionally one of best seeds to eat, good for bowel maintenance.
 
I don't know if they are still available but I used to get milled mixed or single type seeds from Lidl - I stocked up before the panic buying and have stored them in the colder fridge (I have two fridges) and they seem cheap enough to use everyday.
I have a Bamix with attachments - it is the sort of thing you only need to buy once. I use it several times every day starting with making frothy coffee in the mornings and it sits on the kitchen worktop for instant use all the time. It chops, aerates, beats, pulverizes - so all sorts of processing can be done at home.
I tend to buy good cookware, good shoes, and then not need to buy the same thing again - I bought my cast iron cookware many decades ago and it just gets better with age.

In the same as you. It’s why I’ve got a lovely collection of Global knives and professional cookware that I’ve been using for 30+ years. Buy good and buy once. And your Bamix is good that’s for sure.
