Sounds really nice....never done a road trip before but with my bike I would be lucky to get to 30 miles before my butt went rock hard 😱

Try 4000miles 6 days Jalapeno ! Been on a trip in the uk of 2600miles. Newcle to Jog,outer hebs, nortern ireland, southern ireland to cobb & then back into wales. HOME. Have got an extra thin seat on bike cos am on tippy toes. Am short & bike big 😱 Also been to Russian border & italy twice 🙂

Made it as far as Gibraltar on one of my trips out, via France, Spain, Luxembourg, and Portugal. Cost me a clutch when I got back to the UK and a couple or so pints of oil to keep the engine toped up while traveling.

Traveling wise the worst bit was see a petrol station closed and was desperate for fuel and ran out as I pulled on the slip road at the next petrol station.

Got to Gib and the worst of it, got ripped off on the accommodation prices, and its as mad as driving in Birmingham, apart from plenty of sun shine.

There was no numb bum, the luxury in those days of a BMW R80 RT great comfortable bike to ride, apart from the heat given off by the cylinders straight onto ones feet.

After a long break recently bought a Honda NT700, would of liked another BMW but the price is too high for the touring versions.

Out of the bikes I had the BM was probably the best as it was comfortable to ride, would hold what ever speed you wanted all day.

The worst one would of been the Kawasaki Z1100A1 shaft, as it spent more time being repaired than on the road. Faults I remember

Twisted the crankshaft
Shattered the alternator
Bent the valve gear
Burnt out the speedo wiring
The final drive shaft bearing disintegrated and locked the back wheel up, thankfully just left the motorway and was coming to a stop, due to the wrong gasket being fitted.
The rear shaft drive oil seal leaked
The paint fell off, in the end paid a local body shop to re-spray the tank and mudguards.
The engine was re-bored I think twice.
The engine burnt oil like there was no tomorrow.
The piston rings were fitted incorrectly, how supposedly a mechanic could line up all the rings so that the gap in the rings were in alignment so the oil just got pumped into the cylinders.
The chrome on the exhausts was rubbish and had the silencers replaced twice.

All these faults happened within the first 15000 miles

It's nice to be home and relax, I spent quite a bit of time knitting mittens and hats🙂
