Hi

After having blood sugar readings around 9 (2 hours post meal) over the last few days l
( have been suffering with a cold though) ...today 3 hours post evening meal just did my blood sugar (3 hours post meal as forgot to do it at usual time due to chilling with TV) and I got a 5.8 reading!

This is the lowest I have had for a while.. blood sugars are usually under 11 but range from 6.5 to 9.5 generally but am diet and exercise only... this is after having:

1 slice toast and marmalade and an egg for breakfast
1 latte and a ginger biscuit mid morning
1 bacon sandwich for lunch
and a homemade beef stew ( for two) with one large spud one carrot one mushroom one onion and beef

one packet of pork scratchings (very small size)

and

two glasses of chardonnay ( well it is nearly Xmas)

I am stunned ! Not done much exercise due to weather and cold .. was out at the local shops for one hour and did do housework etc but I am still surprised at the good reading. Not complaining though?

Just wondered if anyone has any clue why?

Diabetes never fails to surprise me!!

Well, my suspicion would be that you normally take a reading earlier after eating and that shows your 'peak' level, but after that your numbers start to fall back 🙂 What can happen with Type 2 is that you get a 'delayed first phase' of insulin - this means that when you eat your pancreas is a bit sluggish to respond, so levels can increase until it gets up to speed for the 'second phase' where it is pumping out enough insulin to bring levels down again 🙂

Always nice to see a number in the 5s! 🙂

Shopping and housework sound like exercise to me @Forgetful55 LOL. 😛

Thanks for the replies.. and for explaining the sluggish pancreas , Northener ,which I did not realise happened in that way.. its good to know my spikes come down quick. Also I guess housework and shopping kind of counts, Bloden but usually I walk lots more and do aqua classes at the gym too.. but having the cold has slowed me up a bit this week. It seems to have gone away now.. hurray!

I had to answer questions about activity in the previous week by GP, this did include shopping and housework.

These colds are annoying! I started the week really proactive on my exercise but these last few days I've really struggled to even breathe! Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks hopefully I have kicked it into orbit now..no cough as yet. Hope you feel better soon too .
