Hi,
Over the past months since covid-19 my blood sugars have been over 10, but before this they were usually in the 6 spectrum.
I have just figured out why.
The hand sanitizer I have been using contains Glycerol

If your blood readings have massively increased please check the ingredients in your hand soap and sanitizer.

We usally say if you get unexpected results it is worth double checking.

Can you be absolutely certain that's the reason though? I only ask as I've always used hand cream containing it and also use it in mixing e liquids and have tested to find no difference in my readings should I have it or cream on my hands xx

Hi Chezzy, welcome to the forum.🙂

If your numbers are back to usual, then well figured out. It’s a useful reminder that clean fingers are better for testing, but don’t use hand sanitiser to achieve that🙂

Aren't we advised to wash our hands with soap and water before testing? I always do.
Yes advised to but sometimes not always possible, especially if your someone who could suffer hypos xx

Yeah Martin, not so bad if you only test before or immediately after meals etc - but when you're on insulin and you feel 'odd' so test and you're well under 4, you can't cos getting up off your bum in the living room and walking to either the kitchen or bathroom might easily result in face planting the floor ......

PS - whilst at work and handling a lot of paper (so not a 'dirty' job whatever) I've often been known to suck the finger tip in question!
