Hi guys, just a quick question do you know of a half unit insulin pen that I can use with my Novorapid? Its just that I am trying to control my blood sugars and I hope that this will help me, fingers crossed 🙄 Thanks for any help / info

Hi Vanessa,

Yes it's called Novopen Junior I believe. My son used these when he was on MDI. If your clinic team can't give you one, they are available on prescription from your GP.

Get yourself a Novapen Echo pen...

I approached my DSN and got 2. Its capable of delivering in half units and has a little memory function which will tell you how many hours ago you last injected and what the last dose was. It only tells you the last one but its helped me no end in so many situations where I inject and 2 minutes later think.. Did I? Or didnt I? 😉

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your replies RedKite & bennyg I have my review this afternoon so hopefully they can sort me one out today?..... If I am still in the 6's club then I will be very surprised, mind you all the hypos I am having may keep me in that club but it will be a false HBAC oh well will let you know what I end up with. Cheers again 🙂

I got given a Novopen Echo and i love it. I'm on pretty small doses of insulin so I've found it really handy being able to give half units of insulin. I hope you manage to get one!

I've also got a novopen echo and think it is great. There are a few other good features besides the half units - very easy to change cartridges, a 'reminder' of your previous injection, plus you can wind it back if you dial up more than you intended. You can also wind it forward if you are close to the end of the cartridge to find out how much is remaining 🙂

Yeay I have got a red Novopen echo ordered it will be at the chemists tomorrow! Thanks for all the replies 🙂

Oh and my HBAC was 5.7% but I think as I said before this isnt brilliant because of all the hypo's.. Oh well got a new pen now first one in 7 years how sad am I to be excited by this lol

Not sad at all! I was excited to get my blue echo! 🙂

I love any new D gadget... how sad is that? Use the Echo for my Levemir and it's really helpful.

I'd say well done on the 5.7 but from personal experience I know that getting an Hba1c like that from having multiple hypos is exceedingly uncomfortable.

Yes you can get them, I use the novopen junior and my friend uses the novopen echo I think it is.

Mine really helped, so I hope you get some good results from being able to deliver half units! Good luck!

This is just the kind of thing I could do with. I often end up calculating that I need .4/.5/.6 of a unit for a meal and I always wonder if I should round up or round down. 😛

I'll ask to see my Diabetes GP and see if I can't get myself prescribed with one of these. 🙂

My Novopen Echo just broke. I can inject OK but the memory function has failed completely with a spillage of red ink in the "screen". I rang NovoNordisk who are sending me an envelope to return it. Unfortunately they won't send out a new pen until they receive the broken one. Bit of a catch 22 situation since I don't have a back up half unit pen. As it happens I'm off to the D clinic tomorrow so will ask for another.
