Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Just been diagnosed with type 2 two days ago turns out I had this since 2017 bloods were taken at hospital but my go states they were not informed my recent blood tests were for hair loss now it seems my diabetes could have caused this quite upset as perhaps this could have been prevented as any one else experienced hair loss and how perhaps to improve this many thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum Ldd from a fellow T2.
I had hair loss on my arms and legs. It got better when my blood glucose (BG) went down.

Aah, sorry you're having a rough time. I've had T1 for nearly 50 years since I was 6 and all my family have lovely thick hair but mine has always been very thin and scraggy and I think it's because of my diabetes. Not sure if it is due to that or not , or I just got unlucky !! Sometimes we are all too ready to blame everything we get on having diabetes when a lot of the time it's probably not the reason. Who knows ? My hairdresser is great at giving tips and advice to make it look better. Go treat yourself to an appointment and Im sure they can help you look and feel great xx

Have they checked your Thyroid function, either of you?

I have under active thyroid and take Thyroxine which has increased to 100mg a day over the years and regular bloods to check levels but has made no difference to my hair. Maybe does for some though so good idea getting thyroid levels checked out.

I had my bloods taken last week and the thing showing amiss was the diabetes I stated getting thin hair the 2 years before I was diagnosed

I have been told by several different Endocrinologists at different hospitals over the years that if someone with diabetes has an under active Thyroid, we all 'tend to thrive better' with our TSH test nearer 1 than 2. The 'normal' level of 3 is only normal in a non diabetic.

So - always ask for your actual numbers! What's yours? - mine's 1.17.
