I dont usually post on here much these daysbut today have to say I am rather pleased with myself. Last time I had my review back in November last year my HbA1c had gradually been going up over the year or so and had gone up to 8.1, my glicazide was increased and should have gone back in May but with moving house and having trouble with my gallbladder it got forgotten about. Anyway this time the HbA1c has gone down to 6, was so surprised cause I was convinced it had gone up, along with that my blood pressure and cholesterol have gone down to within the normal ranges. She also said since last year I have lost 26 kilos, I knew I had lost a fair bit but not that much, I had been losing it slowly but when the trouble with my gallbladder and then op to remove it lost alot more. Only thing I have got to keep eye on is my iron levels, had to go back for more blood tests today, looks like is probably a B12 deficiency, which she said can be caused by taking metformin, never heard of that before. will know results of that later in week but this would explain my tiredness, I thought it was just my body getting over having op four weeks ago, still feeling rather sick as well, usually during night and in morning. Has taken me a while to get over the surgery as I had bile duct infection before and after op but feeling lot better now.

I saw my Mum really suffer with out of control diabetes and vowed I would never let myself get like she did, and think last couple of years I havent really looked after myself but pleased now I seem to be going in right direction and intend to keep it up, just need little bit of support when things start getting tough again, so figured this would be good place to come!!!

Congratulations! Let's hope the B12 injection (if that's what you need) sorts you out so you're fighting fit before too long. 🙂

Well done!

Yes - B12 deficiency on Metformin is common-ish, but I (think I) only know one person on 'other' DSF who has this and needs the jabs, so it isn't mega common. He does fine with them.

Excellent results Karent! 🙂 A terrific weight loss as well! I hope that you are fully recovered from your op very soon, and very encouraged by the progress you have been making, you should be very proud of yourself 🙂

Hi Karent

Excellent news on the T2 front. Just to let you know a colleague of mine was diagnosed with T2 earlier this year & he already had low B12. He did a course of injections & now thinks he will only need 1 per year as a top up. But they check his level whenever he has his normal diabtes blood tests.
