At risk of diabetes
Hey everyone,
First post here so hope you're all good!

I've been having some treatment privately which I won't go into in great detail but as part of that, I've been diagnosed as having low testosterone. I also had my blood work done and all came back absolutely fine apart from my SHBG and Fasting Glucose ;

Fasting Glucose - 8nmol/l
SHBG - 9nmol/l

Haemoglobin A1c (DCCT) 6.5 %
Haemoglobin A1c (DCCT) *48 nmol/mol

All my endocrinologist told me was to go and make an appointment with my GP as he wasn't going to treat my levels as it was prediabetic. Looking at help online it looks like my levels are putting me as a Diabetic?

Any help and advice would be great as I need to get the way I'm feeling under control!

Welcome @RyanK92 🙂 48 is right on the diabetes line. Sometimes GPs like to do a second HbA1C to confirm, especially if you’ve got other health issues. If you are 48, then some small changes to your diet, losing weight if needed, and exercise might well reduce that back below the line.

Welcome to the forum
Just be careful of your n's and m's as the units for blood glucose are mmol/l and HbA1C mmol/mol
48 would put you just on the diagnostic threshold so worth getting a test from your GP.
There are some conditions or treatments for conditions that can impact on your blood glucose levels so it needs to be taken in context of whatever other conditions you have.
If there is no other complication then making some modest dietary changes should help to bring your blood glucose down.

Hopefully you’ll be able to get a confirmatory check done, so you can see how the land lies?

It’s at least prediabetes, but it’s not diabetes unless a second hba1c is 48+ too. So you need a second one to confirm. Often this is done a few months later to give you time to work on diet and exercise first.
