I've just had my latest blood test. My previous one came out at 42mmol/mol (or 6.0%).

Anyone care to have a pop at what this one will be? I've been keeping my exercise levels up(ish) and my spot BG checks have been as follows so far this year (I'm not going to say whether they are before or after meal tests!):

3's --> 3
4's --> 14
5's --> 8
6's --> 5
7's --> 3
8's --> 1
9's --> 1

Interestingly, my blood pressure reading was ridiculously good at 117/75. I have never had such a good reading before and normally get something like 140/80. I must have been relaxed today or it may have been because I had replaced my normal strong morning coffee with lemon green tea?!

Andy 🙂

I'm going to shoot for 5.8! Good luck!

I'm rubbish at guessing but I'll say a 'maintain' at 6 x 🙂

So what was your BG at all other times except for the 35 milli-seconds you actually tested for? At all those times - were you rising or falling?

The answer - as we know from Hitchhiker's - is 42.

:D

About 40% were before meal tests, 40% were 2hrs after meals and the other 20% were at some other time (either 1hr after meals or retests). I think it's a given that anything 7 or above was an after meal test )probably a 1hr test).

For me, I've already gone through the process of working out which foods to avoid/reduce. I have never tested frequently because my BG spot checks have pretty much always been reasonable and the HbA1c has always confirmed that my control is ok (so far). Rising or falling has therefore never been an issue for me.

Andy 🙂

I am going to say 5.6!! cos I know how you do so well at these things.
I would be happy with those readings - well done you!🙂

Andy.

I have taken your numbers above and divided by 3squared, carried forward the decimal point then worked on a minus negative +. Now if my maths are correct, that should give you a 5.9% 😉 🙂

I will go for 38 MMOL

.... and because there is a prize involved, I'm plumping for 44mmol/mol (or 6.2%).

Andy 🙂

p.s. Don't get excited, some people know what my prizes are like!

6.0...........

Always something to be said for a maintain!

I'm worried that I might have been a little too complacent recently though. Hopefully, I'll get good news and can breathe a sigh of relief or I'll get a kick in the proverbials and need to pull my socks up!

Andy 🙂

Strewth!

I'm down to a 5.8% (or 40mmol/mol) again. That's bad news (oddly), it doesn't give me the kick in the pants that I needed!!

So, congratulations to robofski. Your virtual photograph of me handing you a substantial prize is on its way to you right now.

Not such good news on the renal profile though (maybe .... the nurse couldn't tell me what was causing the concern which is a bit daft)

Sodium - 140
Potassium - 6.5
Creatinine - 84

Unfortunately, I don't know the units these measurements are in and so don't know which one (or more) they are concerned about. My hunch is that it is the creatinine (and perhaps the potassium). Does anyone know what the normal readings are for these?

Anyway, I'm off for another blood test today. Hopefully, they can tell me then what's up!

Andy 🙂

I did a forum search and found a post by vicsetter saying that he'd had a creatinine level of 116 and that was in range and so perhaps I'm ok on that score.

Maybe it's the dreaded cholesterol. I'm still a bit above the 4.0 they'd like to see and so perhaps it's that they're bothered about (new surgery and all, they don't know my standard response to such things!).

Andy <rolls sleeves up and looks determined> HB :D

Andy I know exactly what you mean as I too have expected bad results from the last two HbA1c tests but not got the kick up the backside required!! There is no reason for you not to continue as you have been doing, is there?

Well done on the 40 MMOL.

Damn. 2 out LOL.

Well done Andy!

Can't help on the other readings, sorry.

Just been for the extra blood test today.

It transpires that it's the potassium that is too high. Looking at an old results sheet from my previous GP practice, the range should be 3.5 to 5.1 mmol/l

Fingers crossed, it's just a blip (I do tend to be dehydrated and I'm guessing that this may be a factor .... must drink more water .... must drink more water!!)

I do need to be a bit more sensible with the carbs though. I have been bingeing on biscuits and stuff recently and that HAS to stop. I might be getting away with it for now, but it will probably catch up with me eventually.

Anyway, thanks all.

Andy 🙂
