It is my week to cook so no excuses!!
Risotto with a very carefully timed delivery of insulin to avoid the spike followed by a sensible walk of 45 min after our evening meal. All a recipe for perfect Libre profile.

BUT. Why o why do they not give the carbs for the dried weight of rice. With a 10.5 at bedtime I wondered what on earth was giong on. So I had taken the CHO from the 100 g as dried weight, not as the cooked. However once it is cooked and mixed with everything else, what is the point of weighing it then.

So I had used three times what we needed and it is no surprise that we did not manage to eat it all. The recipe suggested even more than I did, ut perhaps Nigel Slater has a big appetite. OH did think it was quite a lot, but as I am a bit of a beginniner with all this cooking he did not like to say anything!!! Lesson learnt and correction delivered.

I find the book, Carb and Calorie Counter, by C. cheyette and Yello Balolia, really useful and it gives great information about portion sizes.

Good Morning SB2015,
I got conned by ASDA & TESCO's labelling as well about 18 months ago. It used to be all carb content of rice was given as dried weight at + or - 60gms per 100. If it's cooked weight then it will be in the 20's. Mind you if you was it well the starch will come out which will reduce it a bit - but then that will only add to the confusion as I don't know by how much it is reduced!

Best of luck
Chris

... and since we all cook it in different ways it would make much more sense to give dry weight carbs. Hover I had not thought about the loss of starch in cooking. Ho hum. Back to carbs and calls with nice pictures. I tend to rely on my Maths rather than photos but not always reliable!! As I do more cooking I shall become more aware of it all (or persuade OH to go back to diong it all as he did when I was diong marking and preparation every evening)

I have not used the book for ages, or carbs and calls. I shall fish them out again. It tend to use the app on the phone when out and about for sizes of scones, cakes, ... Thinsg I don't have very often.
