Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello, my name is Joey and I am a type 1 diabetic. I have had it since birth, but was officially diagnosed on 9/11/2001 – yes, that happened. I have been on an insulin pump for 18 years and it has helped me tremendously. I don't know many diabetics to talk to in my life, but I thought it was time to start speaking with people who can share a mutual understanding for the disease and what it is like to experience it. I look forward to knowing the "lows" and "highs" of others' experience from being a diabetic!

Which pump are you using?
I've been using the Medtronic 670g for a couple of years now. Recently, however, I have switched to the Dexcom Glucose Monitor and hope to get the pump as well sometime soon. I just need my health insurance company to say yes to buying it out-of-pocket for me. The 670g works well as a pump in of itself, but using the pump with its sensor was chaotic. I received a truck-load of "sensor errors" and "lost sensor" messages more than half of the time. The other percentage of that time was the sensor giving me my glucose reading, which was always around a 100 points off anyways. However, I've been pumping since 2001 haha! I have a bit of experience with manually keeping my blood sugar steady, and so that sensor actually caused it to be worse by giving me wrong readings and making me correct for something that did not need to be corrected for. But now, I'm giving this new monitor from Dexcom a chance and it has helped me keep it steady better than the lsat sensor and better than manually checking my blood sugar. What about you? What pump are you using?

That is interesting about the Dexcom sensors. The Dana Support seuggested that Dexcom sensors were more reliable than Medtronic (but they may be biased!).

I am thinking to switch from a Combo to a Dana RS pump. This is because I will be able to manually enter my glucose, taken from my Libre, for Bolus corrections and calculations, which I am now getting on NHS, and so reduce finger pricks. I also like having remote control, which in the Dana is through a phone app. Less stuff to carry around eventually.
