Just wondering after reading the article about the teenager who ended up having hepatitis after drinking 3 cups of green tea a day to help her slim which she bought from the internet. I drink one cup of green tea a day and am now wondering is it safe to drink as I thought it had good health benefits.

I have been drinking one cup of green tea every morning on an empty stomach for years and I have had no ill effects at all. Perhaps what suits one does not suit another just like a lot of other things.

The girl in question bought her tea from a dodgy source. It contained hazardous chemicals. I think if you buy branded green tea from a reputable supermarket you should be fine!

A decent green tea should be no problem, I drink it myself from time to time. If it's bought from a reputable source without any nasty additives or chemicals it ought to be fine. I see though, the girl bought hers from China without checking the ingredients (which were listed in Chinese) so who knows what was in it besides the tea.

I suspect it's the 'bought from the internet' and deliberate weight loss parts of that sentence that are the problem, rather than anything to do with green tea.

Not only safe but massively recommended carina. But source it well...I'm not a massive fan (even though it's well recommended for cancer sufferers) but I bought organic green tea from a reputable shop. Too much dodgy stuff around the net for me to risk untried online providers.

It's one of the few things I've heard specialists definitely recommend for people with my particular cancer and it has a number of general health benefits.

I have been drinking one cup a day when I am at work and have mainly bought them from health food shops or the supermarkets. Someone at work told me yesterday that the Japanese green tea is much better to buy than the Chinese green tea as China uses a lot of pesticides when they are growing it. Japanese Matcha green tea is supposed to be better. I have googled about it and it sounds like a good one to try. Thought I would pass on this bit of advice.

I don't see the Chinese dying of green tea in China.

I reckon the antioxidants are good for you, though I buy decaf green tea so it doesn't keep me awake.

A chinese doctor in Beijing looked at my ailments, including the diabetes and recommended me to drink Pu Er tea. It is an aged tea naturally free of caffeine; delicious but expensive to buy the proper stuff sometimes.
