I keep seeing Greek yoghurt is good for diabetes but can it still spike your blood sugars ?

Ah! I’ve just introduced it into my diet & eaten it every day for 9 days now. It hasn’t spiked my blood sugars & I’ve halved my usual bolus insulin, Novorapid, for it. I went for full fat & not a particularly low carb either as I don’t want sweeteners in my diet either & went with Oykos strawberry, blueberry & raspberry being the flavours I’ve had. The fat makes it quite filling & the difference I noticed is a slower but, sustained levels in my BS: a tiny peak by about 1mmol at the 2 hours after mark then, not much of a drop by the 3 hour after mark & virtually no drop after that. So, it’s a different profile to my usual peak by about 2/3mmol at 1.5 hours after followed by a steady drop throughout the rest of the 2.5 hours of active insulin. So, the yoghurt hardly changes my BS as it only goes up a little & I end up virtually where I started at after 4 hours of active insulin! Yesterday before eating 08:09 BS 7.7 2 hours after eating 10:10 BS 8.3 3 hours after 11:15 BS 8.0 & 4 hours after 12:14 BS 7.8. Try it & test to see what it does for you?

It is good if you compare it with low fat one's as the carbs are lower but cal's higher so it is something I have every night after dinner with berries and a few raw nuts/seeds. Almost anything can spike you if you eat loads of it but full fat greek yog is a good choice over low cal one's.

Greek Yogurt is not specifically good for diabetes but won't have any added sugar which is the problem with virtually all branded yogurts.

Cant see why its not good for us or anyone, yogurt is good source of calcium for bone health. Eat Greek Yogurt everyday.

The plain one I get from Lidl is low carb at 5.5% so you'd need to eat a lot to get a BG spike.
