My renewals have always been automatic - and if not done immediately I've been able to request via Systmonline and then they've just done them straight away - until this happened to me in 2020 - https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/threads/surgery-threatening-to-stop-my-meds.90248/ - which was a horrible stressful experience.
I haven't had any problems with them since I sent them the email I posted in that thread, though R has had a couple of phonecalls asking how I am (fine thanks, but still more or less shielding so still not going into surgery for a routine review) and what I'm doing about eye photos (paying for them to be done by my opticians as I've now had two NHS appointments not happen thanks to their admin telling him wrong time/place).
Glad to hear you have got your review sorted now, @Flower - and that the GP was so helpful with the podiatry referral too, sounds as though it was worth your having the appointment for that, even if you shouldn't have needed one for the review.
