Government to fund trials into blocking out the sun

Funding for experiments to dim the sun to be given approval in weeks. The sun, the source of life on earth.

One major area of research is Sunlight Reflection Methods (SRM), which includes Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (SAI) whereby tiny particles are released into the stratosphere to reflect sunlight.

Another potential solution is Marine Cloud Brightening (MCB) in which ships would spray sea-salt particles into the sky to enhance the reflectivity of low-lying clouds.

Weird, I wrote an unpublished novel years ago on this sort of theme. It was called 'Afraid of Sunlight' (Named after a Marillion album!)

They got it all wrong. It's actually experiments into Dim Sum.
Low carb version for us type 2s.

Paywall, can't read it so no idea why 'they' want to do it.
There's a Daily Mail version. (Google News also offers a GB News link. Spot the connection between the three outlets.)

Are you suggesting the news is fake?
It's quite likely true. My point is that the three outlets have a readership that's likely to be angry about the news because, well, they're pretty angry generally, but I suggest they're more likely than average to deny that global warming exists and/or is created by humans and/or is something we can or should try to alter.

The actual research described seems quite reasonable to me. My hunch is that it probably won't lead to anything practical but it's worth exploring.

Journalistic sensationalism, I think. I went back to the source quoted, which is here.
So yes, this organisation has set money aside to experiment with climate cooling, but it talks about if or when Earth has reached a tipping point,( ie, something needs to be done fast or we are in really big trouble) and needing to conduct experiments now, to be prepared for that eventuality.

I think if there was ever a news story to try to convince us (plant the seed) that the world is over populated this is it. It is alluding (without saying so) that we are looking at two outcomes/options, we either act now (start reducing the population c02 reduction, net zero etc) or end up blocking the sun with the likelihood of disastrous effects on the planet.

“SRM, rather like chemotherapy, is not something one would wish on a healthy planet. The Earth is sick and it is likely that any cure such as SRM will have unpleasant side effects. What we really ought to be doing is to halt the rise of atmospheric greenhouse gases, not just sometime in the future but now.”
