Just got my letter after my scan last month. It says that they show significant changes which require further assessment to see if treatment is required, laser may be offered :(

In a helpful little paragraph they tell me that keeping my diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol well-controlled to reduce my risks, and to stop smoking. Erm, they are already well-controlled and I stopped smoking 18 years ago, so basically they are telling me there is nothing I can do :(

Fed up!

Oh no! Sorry to hear this. :( I hope they can fit you in for treatment quickly.

I just uttered a few expletives when I saw this. Alan I'm so sorry that you got this news. They will get it sorted out and it's great that they are monitoring so they can take appropriate action if necessary. Massive hugs to you xx

Not sure if it helps but when they lasered the exudates near my macula two years ago it didn't hurt at all and that problem has not come back.

That does help Amanda, thank you 🙂 I'm wondering if the damage was done way back when I was diagnosed - my HbA1c went from 11.8% to 6.8% in 6 weeks, and then down to 5.2% a few months later, so maybe it dropped too quickly.

Hi Alan

I had been wondering that as well about the rapid improvement - together with you having a delay before you were diagnosed. There really is a good chance that they will be able to keep it stable as you have everything else under control

3 months is a long wait alan, I hope you get an appointment sooner rather than later, and hope you get the best treatment 🙂

Sorry to hear this Alan, NOT what you wanted to hear. But hopefully a further assessment will find that treatment is not required, so try and stay positive. They probably have a standard generic letter to send out to all patients who are being recalled.

Is the three month wait because there is a queue for appointments, or because they want to monitor if there are any changes? Perhaps if nothing changes, no treatment will be needed.

sorry to hear this alan, really hope things get sorted soon. I know its easy for me to say but try not to worry too much 🙂🙂🙂

xx

Damn! That's so not fair Alan, especially as you have such good control now. I'm left wondering how I've managed to escape with no diabetic changes after the roller coaster I've been on. It doesn't make any sense.

Life's not fair, sometimes, is it?

But as you know, good control of blood glucose & blood pressure and not smoking reduces your chances of retinopathy, not removes it completely.

Also, as you know and others have said, the letter says you will be assessed, not that you necessarily need laser treatment. If you do need tretment, then better to be treated sooner, when there's less damage than later.

Oh no, sorry to hear this, especially when your control is so good. My Auntie received the same letter today and was really upset about it this morning. I hope you get your appointment date through soon.

Sorry to hear that Alan, news like that is a complete and utter bummer.
Thinking of you ((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))

Hi Alan,

I am very surprised at this as your levels are so stable arent they!😱If you do have any damage it doesnt seem to go hand in hand with a good HBA1C does it? Hopefully they are being careful and just want to double check.:(🙂Bev

Hope you do get your appointment sooner than later, and they get every thing sorted out for you.

Sorry to hear that Alan. Hope you get sorted soon.

Life really sucks Northie, ring the hospital to see if you can get in sooner, 3 months seems a long time to wait.

Really sad to hear your news Alan :(. It does not seem fair when you try so hard and do so well. Let's hope that you get an appointment soon and that there is little or no treatment needed. At least they are on to it. Sending you a big hug ()
