Got me eventually.....

Hi. I just stumbled across this forum half an hour ago and it looks like a place I will regularly visit. I have type 2 and started on Metformin this morning. There is a history of diabetes in my family - my late mum and dad, my sister and nephew all had/have diabetes and my daughter, who is a GP says I have done well to get to 70 yrs without being affected. I think my reasonably healthy diet and plenty of golf has helped. Despite being familiar with the condition I feel I'm starting out on a long, uncertain journey. I think my BG was around 16 and I return to the clinic in six weeks. I look forward to the chat, advice and encouragement I will find on this forum.

Hi Browser , welcome. With a family history like that, you have done well in waiting to get nabbed by D at 70.

To be honest, my daughter hasn't given me any detailed advice, as yet, on diet recommendations. I think she reckons my diet is quite healthy, as it stands, as I cook all meals for myself ( my wife passed away a year ago ) from scratch and rarely buy ready meals and that sort of stuff. She says I generally eat sensibly but I know that I will have to make some changes in future once I get the hang of the situation.

Sorry to hear about your wife passing away. My dad passed 6 months ago. I'm sure the stress and upset has messed my blood sugar levels up. I'v come bck here to get myself sorted. Even passed up a cheesecake tonight.
