Type 2
It's been a while since I was on the site.

I wanted to wait till I (hopefully) had some good news to share.

The retinopathy scan was clear.

The podiatrist said I had a moderate risk of problems because I have deformed feet (deformed feet run in the family!). I have in the past had hammer toes operated on, on both feet.

Since January I have lost 1 stone 10 lbs. I haven't been trying. That is a consequence of eating differently/a bit less. Also plenty of exercise. Walking and use of the turbo trainer.

The weight loss as sent my INR haywire. Thankfully it is settlig down a bit.

Best of all:

When diagnosed type 2 in January the Habc1 level was 63 and when i was tested this week it was 41.

I am slowly finding out what raises the glucose.

Porridge does to an extent, more so than toast/cheese on toast. I had a late breakfast this morning and it rose to above 10. Another time if I have a late one I wlll have something else.

I had a good chat to the nurse this week and she said i could go up to a reading of 10.

I test myself 4 times a day. Before and after breakfast and before and after my main meal.

I am fortunate in that I can get 50 test strips prescribed at a time.

I hope anyone having any tests done in the near future have such good results.

That's brilliant news Steven and very well done on your efforts and excellent Hba1c result! 🙂

As time goes on, I wouldn't settle for readings up to 10 too often if I were you. I've found medics can set levels rather too unambitiously at times but others may disagree.

No. I agree. I am not happy with readings of 10 or above. If i had that sort of reading regularly I would be concerned.

Most of the readings are well below that level. Usually it is under 8. It rises more after breakfast usually to 7.6-7.8. More often than not it is lower 2 hours after main meal.

I think the nurse may have gave me that target because of my size i am a very slim 6 foot.

I was surprised to hear that I had lost so much weight, and even more so when I had my waist measured that I am a 38 inch waist.
Exercise wise I do a lot of walking as part of my daily routine and use the turbo trainer 30-35 minutes x2 or my version of high intensity. Ride for a minute hard, rest for a minute for 10 minutes. Doing that you know you know you have done some.

Well done Steve, that's great progress - not just with the numbers, but also in understanding how different things affect you and learning how to manage your diabetes well in order to stay fit and healthy - long may it continue! 🙂
