Golf as a form of exercise.

I suffered a heart attack last year and decided I needed to start exercising more so bought some golf clubs. Has anyone else taken up golf as a form of exercise and if so how are you finding it?

I started playing golf some years ago and found it hugely enjoyable and intensely frustrating in almost equal measure! My parents were keen golfers and it was a nice way to spend time together catching up and chatting.

Changes in circumstances mean I haven’t played for the past 5 years, as 18 holes is too long to leave the dogs at home alone. Would like to play again at some point though.

I used to use a fitness tracker, and it was surprising how many miles of walking was involved. I needed to reduce insulin and take on some carbohydrates to reduce hypo risk - so I’d imagine for T2 on oral meds it would provide a helpful addition to exercise and activity, as long as you can avoid snacks and beers in the bar afterwards!

That’s good to know that it is beneficial. It’s difficult to get into unless you know someone who plays already. I’ve been to the driving range and really enjoyed it but itching to get out on the course! Hopefully you can get out on the course soon and get back into it.
 
Yes I went through a phase of putting 2-3 clubs in a backpack and cycling to the course to hit a bucket or two of balls on the range. That was a pretty useful workout too! Aerobic on the bike, and bending / stretching / twisting on the range 🙂
 
Forget who it was alleged to have said 'Golf - a good walk spoiled!' but anyway the most important thing is that whatever, it absolutely IS exercise!
 
Definitely a good exercise. As I often mention had a bad stroke but luckily enough able to work with a Nuero Physio . One of his many mantras was anything is exercise. Gardening, housework, walking up and down stairs, having a shower, it’s all movement . One of my specialist exercises was standing, you’re balancing ,pushing weight down through your core muscles, strengthening your legs.
Thanks to him I’ve become aware of how much effort we put into carrying out basic tasks.
