I may be going to the cinema tonight - before diagnosis it was a common thing for me to go out for some food and then go to the cinema on a Saturday evening - and was wondering what people take in with them in terms of food and drink?

I used to have a regular/medium box of sweet popcorn, a few sweets and then a fizzy drink. Obviously that combo is out the window now 🙄.

if you are on MDI then have your pop corn but try the unsweetend kind ie salt and butter and have a diet drink instead.
There is no reason to mis out just because you have diabetes.
It's better to make wise choices and think of ways to substitute really high carb stuff with a healthier option.
But then again there is no reason not to indulge in moderation.
A very good bit of advice I was given by a consultant years ago was... do not deny yourself all things nice. If you do you will just crave them more and binge.
So if you want some sweets have a think about some choc covered nuts as you have a good mix and not such a high carb inpact on your blood sugars.

Not totally just if you have done DAFNE then work out the carbs for the popcorn maybe go for buttered or salted popcorn and diet drink. Also as you will be sitting for a long time you may need more insulin. I tend to raise my ratio a little if I'm gonna be sat down for a while. Ie cinema, presenting my three hour radio show.

hi Scanz..... I went to the cinema on wednesday but had a meal first.... then wasn't craving the popcorn and stuff that I would usually have had 😎

what movie you going to see? hope you have a great time 🙂

Have a great time if you go, I can't add much, all good advice! Chocolate nuts sounds like a good idea to me - yum! Might be a good idea to check your blood sugar levels before you go in, sometimes I go a bit high if I'm sitting down a lot so I like to know what my levels are like to start with.

I know I am type 2 so rather different problems but when I go to the cinema I take a cereal bar and have either diet coke or water + some sugar free mints ( I love the 'extra mints ice' in a long tin, they last so well) If the film's good enough that should be ok !!!

Enjoy ! what are you going to see? The last I went to was the King's speech... wow !!

by the way... I took my grandson to see I Am Number Four....... made us jump out of our skin at times..... but lots of action and a pretty good story for a 12A :D

Thanks for the ideas 🙂

There's quite a few good films out at the moment so i'm not too sure yet, but will be between Rango, The Adjustment Bureau, Unknown and Ironclad.
