Having just done a long trip to an area I'm not familiar with, I set the "sat nav" up for guidance and then found myself saying things like "thank you" or "are you sure" etc.

Is it normal to talk to your "sat nav" ? and expect an answer ?

Definitely. At least I do it.
I also thank my smart speaker (and tell it off when it gets it wrong or ignores me).

Completely normal I also talk to my pump, my Dexcom, and random food items as I’m cooking

It's an odd thing cos the Sat Nav is not alone in ignoring me - so does the car radio and the TV generally. Just as well I don't take offence!

I don’t usually argue with my sat nav’ (apart from the terrible mispronounced road river & area names in my local area, however to device that I often do argue with is Alexa

Morning Alan.Perfectly normal to talk to the SatNav imo but I usually curse mine rather than thank mine if I am on a new road and it does not recognise and keeps on repeating Stay on Highlighted Route or Recalculate ”

For some obscure reason my sat nav insists on taking me all around my village before heading in the right direction, it also has a phobia about the M6 and try's to take me on the M1 which I know is a longer route.

It's not very polite either

My hubby often rants at She who should not be named, usually because sometimes she struggles with his accent. I can say the same thing and she understands me perfectly. She also ignores him when he swears at her.
I talk to the car and other machines I am using as well. Usually words of encouragement to be kind to me. I'm sure they all secretly laugh at me.

When taking granddaughter (aged 4), she always thanks "talking sat nav". I do not always follow sat nav if I know some of the junctions that she (notice I said "she" not "it") is taking me and my wife always apologises to "her" for my ignoring her. My wife always tells me that "she" is doing her best. Next thing, we will have talking doors from the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation courtesy of Douglas Adams.

I often talk to my car and have evidence that it works if you are firm.
Some years ago, my car just lost power (the mechanics about why are irrelevant to the story so no need to speculate). I sat in the middle of the road trying to restart it.
First time I turned the key I was quiet. No response.
Second time, I politely asked it to "please start". Still no response.
Third time was more begging. No help.
Each time, my pleas would become more intense. Yet, my car ignored me.
Eventually, I screamed at the useless ********* heap of ********* junk "you better ******** start this time." It worked!
